Help before buying please

Hey,

Before buying the muso I wanted to ask you guys - if I get a Western Digital MyCloud (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/pro...;smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE) and fill it with all my FLAC/ALAC/MP3s can I then stream those tracks easily using the Naim iPhone/iPad app and will the app show me all the artwork etc?

Sorry if this seems a very basic question - bit of a newbie. Just want to know if it's a painless process using UPnP or if there's another method that would work better.

TIA,

J

Not a daft question

The answer is that it should, providing the metadata was included when the original files were ripped etc and has not been fiddled with. It is file dependent not storage medium dependent.

Best way to be sure-stick some varied files on a USB stick and test it in the Muso.

To a large extent, what you'll see in the Naim App is what the server sends it.  Each UPnP server can be a bit different, despite the word "universal" in the name!  The My Cloud does include a UPnP (DLNA) server.  How good it is -- you need to hear from people who use that very unit.

I just read that Seagate is introducing a new line of their "Personal Cloud" devices, with solid-state drives, at what sounds like very good prices.  The new stuff ships later this month, not to be confused with their existing "My Cloud" products.  There is a story on the Macrumors site about it.  There is a nas/home media server among them.

Even connecting a simple iPod Classic via USB works with artwork etc showing via the MuSo app. The MuSo is a very versatile piece of kit.

Hi UKPianist, check my profile to see what kit I have. It all works very nicely. As far as artwork is concerned, I only have front cover art stored. Any other art is available from my Discogs account or Rovi (within Naim app.)

The WD my cloud is pretty awful, and if you can afford a proper nas it would be a really good idea.

.....and when you get your new toys, do yourself a favour - connect them to your network with ethernet cables, not WiFi.
