Phantom iRadio - help!

Posted by: willc77 on 06 January 2015

Over the past week or so I've come home from work or nights out to find iRadio blaring out of my Unitilite (and no, I definitely didn't leave it on!). It's happened three or four times now, the last time whilst I was away for a night and it had been on for 15 hours. There's possibly some kind of external interference that's meddling with my network and causing the unit to fire up (I never turn it off, just leave it in standby/rest mode when not using it), unless there's an issue with the machine itself. It's only started happening since I updated the firmware to the most recent release version. Just wondering whether anyone else has encountered this issue or has any thoughts about what the cause might be? I'm currently using a BT Home Hub 3, which I realise is one of the worst routers for the job, just haven't got round to choosing a superior alternative (if anyone has any recommendations on this front then gratefully received...).

Thanks in advance

I too am having this issue. Also only since update. I have set up a thread too, did a quick search but didn't turn this thread up for some reason.

My network has a switch for the NAS and the Unitiqute which then takes a feed from my internet router.

Had it happen a couple of times in the middle of the night.

Do you by any chance leave the machine set to iradio input and just stop the stream. Just looking for some commonalities.

Yep, generally seems to happen when I just stop iRadio. Perhaps a temporary fix is just to nudge it onto a different function when I'm done with Internet radio. Seems a bit daft though!

Hi,
I think naim are aware of this issue as Meerkat posted a couple of days ago regarding this problem.
I am not sure if I am the only one but I always turn my volume right down after I have finished listening.

Scott's

Yes, I did. I turned it off today and went shopping, when I came home, Bryan Adams was giving it large on iRadio!

Maybe this is a new burglar deterrent feature that Naim have helpfully provided?

Not observed this myself, but as a thought maybe it's related to the BBC doing something with theri iRadio streams

This started happening to my Uniti2 on Sunday night - iRadio turns itself on at midnight and plays the last channel listened to. Checked all the settings and there is nothing. I also have a BT Hub so I wonder if there is some sort of connection?

I am now remembering to turn the volume down last thing at night....

Yes, same here. Three times during the night now and it reset the volume level last night from 0 to 10. I'm going to select other (unused) input before hitting the sack until we get a steer on a fix.

Interesting...... might be something or nothing (probably nothing) but I've stopped using the remote to turn iRadio on/off since the last occurrence and instead have been using n-stream to control it. The problem hasn't reoccured thus far. Really can't imagine why that should make any difference but there you go.

Same here....

It scared the daylights out of my wife whilst she was drinking her morning coffee

Hope this isn't happening to anyone with capped downloads on broadband!!

This time last year I had a BT Home hub, with a 40 GB capped download. Just as well I'm now with Sky unlimited! I'd have gone well over!

Same happening on my NDS (hence different post).

It's a bug in the new firmware - Naim are aware and will fix it in due course. In the meantime, leave your streamers on a different input when not in use.

Apart from random starting itself (iRadio), my ND5XS is notably warmer around the network card area.

But there is also an increase in random iRadio dropouts when, interestingly, the display shows the iRadio station list rather than Preset list which was selected before hand.

I suspect the latest firmware does not like weak internet signal or network dropouts ...?

Same problen here with my ND5-XS. It's a real pain in the ass.

And I thought we had a ghost....11.45pm every night the NDX turns itself on....iradio....

thinking about it, it may only happen when remote is used to 'turn off'.....

will use iPad tonight and see what happens...

maybe Naim need to upgrade some of their software/firmware engineers.....seems to be too many issues of late...

Bon Weekend

Very interesting indeed!  The same correlation over here - ND5XS turns on just before midnight and I also turn it off by remote !!!!???

It must be something to do with the latest firmware.

It's not the remote. It also happens using the app and the front control buttons. Should be fixed soon.

Hi Guys,

We are aware of the issue and it seems to be related to DHCP lease renewal causing the network hardware to restart and hence the Internet Radio to begin playing again as though there has been a network interruption when used with certain routers.

We are looking at a fix but in the meantime selecting a different input will ensure that it does not happen.

Hi,

I updated my Uniti 2's firmware this weekend, and have also seen this behaviour manifest itself with iRadio seemingly turning itself on. However, this was further complicated by the unit freezing completely whilst this occurred, and iRadio was playing. I was unable to lower volume, or change the input, or anything else for that matter, using the remote, the front panel, or even the apps, both on Android and iOS.

The only solution was to power the Uniti 2 down completely - not something I'd like to do whilst music is playing really.

I've no idea if relevant, but this seemed to occur after using the new Spotify connect functionality - which worked a treat. I've since disabled the Spotify input, and it hasn't happened since.

No idea if there's any correlation, but thought I'd put it out there for the Tech Support guys.

Many thanks.

Hi,

Has somebody got some news about this problem ?

This is really painful ... and unworthy of a brand like Naim

Thanks a lot

I get around it by switching back to uPnP and selecting something. Not ideal but at least it stops it. I hear there is a fix in the works.
