Connecting a sub

Posted by: Number 7 on 12 January 2015

I guess it may be regarded as sacrilegious, but I plan to add a sub to my system (Uniti based), and am wondering if the suggested connection method of a couple of the makers I'm looking at (REL) of connecting to the speaker outputs is going top cause any damage? I'm aware that there are 2 sub outputs on the Uniti, but the REL cable with their dedicated sub plug has 3 bare wire ends for connection to speaker outputs. I was also looking for the user manual on the Naim site, but cant find it for this discontinued product. I assume its no longer supported, but is there a source for the manual? (not the quick start guide). I was trying to understand whether selecting the speaker set up options without sub will disable the sub outputs? Thanks.

What rel is it. I have not seem millions like but all the ones on ebay have a line level input, thats where you connect the sub out from on the uniti.

The T9, although I think this connection method is common in their range - and also BK subs.

Sorry if I misunderstand but I have always used line inputs on subs and never the speaker method. I was always of the impression the speaker method was kind of last in the line if you had no other choices. But you do have choices, you only need to use one output on the uniti into the line in on the sub, jobs a good'n

Just my opinion

Never really understood why people go to the trouble of using a high level connection.  I just connect the n-Sub in my study via the 552's power supply (low level).  No hassle with extra speaker cable, and sounds fine to my ears, although I do have 'sub mute' as a control on my Harmony remote for those recordings which sound better without it.  Used to do the same sort of thing when I still had the 282/HiCap.

I do realise that you may not have a HiCap or similar, Number7.

Just use the low level connection, it's much simpler, just two coax / RCA cables.

And no it's not sacrilege, it gust takes a bit of tweaking to get the alignment right.
