Thinking about a Unitiqute
Posted by: Brian Dodson on 16 January 2015
Hi all,
I'm thinking about a Unitiqute for the family room to replace a Squeezebox Touch and Marantz integrated. I'm leaning toward UQ1s based on price and I've found one with the 24/192 streaming board. Other than the bit rate are there any major drawbacks to the original version vs the UQ2?
Sorry if this has been covered before but I had trouble finding any concise comparison between the UQ1 and UQ2.
Thanks

The Qute2 has a somewhat easier updater technology -- it uses a common usb-to-usb mini cable, rather than a usb-to-RS232 serial cable.
Some of the signal paths have been improved on the 2, both are brilliant (in my opinion of course) and provide great, no frills, fun!
Good luck.
Thanks for the replies. Seems like a UQ1 for the right price will be great.
A Naim integrated amp, with DAC, and streaming, at the price they are going for hits all the right notes!

It's a very nice little product. Begin the inevitable 'which speakers???' inquiry
Well, I have some nice Linn Katans. I expect they will work well together.
I have a Qute in the TV room, which may equate to your family room. Great sound into n-sats, loads of inputs so has cable, dvd , play station hooked up to it.
So far so good, however if you currently use iPeng to control the SBT, you will be sorely disappointed with the Naim app (well I am anyway). Perhaps it's worth the compromise for the sound improvement but don't discount the ease of use, form and functionally of the app and the effect it can have on enjoyment.

I don't use the iPeng app for the SBT, I mainly use the front panel. I also have an Oppo player with streaming services and the cable box. One of the appeals of the UQ is that it should be easy to teach the rest of the family how to listen to the Oppo or anything on TV through the UQ digital inputs.
With that said, I agree the control app is a big part of the experience. Hopefully the app will improve over time.
Agree that the Naim app is a downgrade from iPeng, but the sound quality will be so superior that you will not care.
The best part is that Logitech Media Server is also a uPNP server so you should be able to put the Qute in and still use LMS. You will not be able to use any of the apps, like pandora, but your playlists will be there.
Get it. I got one for a great price and think that it is the best audio buy that I have made in the 20 years I have been buying audio.
Did I say anything about a blue rinse........

Agree with you again Sloopy, never have I been so familiar with the Qute remote!

I see this mentioned a lot but can honestly say that I haven't had any real issues with it since sorting out my files on my NAS.
The main issue was artwork, but since resizing all art work to 174 x 174 pixels jpg's its been fine.
I usually use genre/album to browse and as said, no issues since sorting the NAS out.
