New AV Receiver ... any recommendations .... ????

Looking to replace my ARCAM AVR350  ... nothing to do with the sound i achieve  I only use it as a 5.1 set up and listen to as much music on it as i do film but it is becoming a little ( behind the times )

Anyone own any of the slimline amps ? i have looked at the Marantz 1605 ?? but i know i may have to move up the price and size scale to get close to the arcams musicality however i know time doesn't stand still and i am sure some of the more mainstream amps are as good nowadays ..

any suggestions / opinions  appreciated ...

Budget around the £ 1000.00  mark but the less the better and less moaning from the wife ..

I have an earlier marantz 1602 driving the centre and rear channels with an SN2 driving the fronts.  This way I can have the best of both worlds - proper stereo amp for music and a decent surround solution.

For your budget you could get a 1605 and a second hand nait 5.

I didn't do any sound checks when I bought the 1602 as space was the critical issue and it was the only product I could find which met my space requirements (slimline) and had an output for the front channels.  That said it is significantly better than the Denon 3801 it replaced.

Not slimline. But musically very good AV Receivers are NAD, very happy customer myself. And they have the ability to exchange modules for sound and connection standards. So you can with low costs always stay up to date.

Another option is to use your bluray like an OPPO as the AV and use NAIM applification to get the sound out.
