Low Res Album Artwork in Naim App
Posted by: SWW33 on 20 January 2015
Hi all
After some great help with my original problem (see https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...pp-album-art-problem) I now have noticed that when I display Album artwork in the Naim app, its really low res and compressed i.e. fuzzy.
I have been careful to select large album art image file size within the settings of my ripping software (dbpoweramp). Indeed when I review the individual FLAC files in tag editing software, the image is large and crisp.
So how come it looks rubbish in the Naim App ??
Help !!!
Cheers
Simon
Are you getting 500x500 or above resolution artwork?
I'm guessing you use Asset UPnP? If so it may be set to re-size artwork.
If you're using another UPnP server check to see if that has a similar setting.
Have got the app set for Compatability Mode = On
If yes, turn it to Off

For some reason my Mac can't access that link?. I used to use Twonky, and the artwork on the new app was exactly as you describe. I now use PLEX, and the artwork is razor sharpe!
Sounds stupid but I'm not sure what up&p server I'm using having not actively installed one. However I am using WD Mycloud NAS and I think Twonky is part of this as standard. I will investigate settings but if no joy how would I switch to another server package eg Plex ? Would I have to somehow git rid of Twonky first ?

PLEX is available as a free download for your computer (Mac and Windows). Also for NAS drives. Does your WD Mycloud have an apps section? If so, you may find PLEX there as well. It's my guess, that Twonky is your problem, as it was mine. The artwork and other metadata is fantastic on PLEX. Check out their website, it will list all the compatible NAS drives.
I use PLEX on my Mac, as well as PLEX on my Qnap NAS.

Update...I have just checked the PLEX forum, re WD Mycloud. It does use Twonky as it's music server, and it looks as though PLEX is not available for WD Mycloud.
Nothing stopping you installing PLEX on your computer, and see how it goes. If you don't like it, bin it! You'll lose nothing, as it's free.
PLEX on my Mac, serves all my 16 bit and 24 bit files flawlessly to my ND5 XS, and displays artwork and other metadata perfectly on my iPad Air, using the Naim app.

errr .......... how about a Yes or No to my post ...........
I doesn't matter which media server you have, if you've got Compatibility Mode ON, all art will be low res

Assuming you indeed run twonky: go to the config page e.g., 192.168.1.xx:9000 (you should know the IP address of your NAS, in my case xx=88, then add the :9000 to access Twonky config). There should be a config setting where you specify the type of receiver. You need to set both your streamer and the user interface device (let's say an iPad) to "NAIM STREAMER" or something to that effect (I am not at home now to be more precise). Took me some weeks to figure this out but I am sure it is mentioned in some other places in the forum. Good luck!

How did you do it? Have you dumped 'Wonky Twonky'?
Ha ha no ! Just set all the relevant devices to 'Naim Streamer' and hey presto decent artwork !
Cheers again
Indeed I have also tried other device types including the Scottish rival's one and also work.
The really tricky point is that several NAS devices running twonky (including my Seagate Central) are as a default disabling access to the http://NAS IP:/9000 config page. In that case one has to install a program on PC or MAC to allow access to the NAS (a Linux shell), set permissions for editing the profile and then change the relevant parameter to finally allow http://NAS IP:/9000 page access.. Happy to provide details in case anyone has this issue.
