Upnp Loss

Posted by: musica on 20 January 2015

I have a QNAP NAS with asett qnap installed. Occasionally using the Naim app on my ipad I get the situation where it cannot find the assett server. If I then scan the network using Netwok Analyzer it indicates that there is no Upnp service available on the Qnap assett. Router and NDX Upnp is ok. Rebooting the qnap restores the Upnp service. Can anyone help regarding the possible cause of this problem. Is it a known problem with qnap assett. I have heard of port forwarding as a possible alternative to Upnp is this correct or something I have misread. If it,is is it difficult to implement.

Thanks Philip

Did you uninstall or disable the internal UPnP / DLNA server?

Assuming you haven't tried this already, you might want to install and run Minimserver on your QNAP. It tends to be reliable and stable and if it stops working like your Asset install you'll know that it's not a software problem.

Have you at least had a look on the Asett and QNAP forums to see if others have had the same problem?

Post the question on the Asset (Illustrate) forum, Spoon is one of the most helpful forum mods around

I used to have the same problem with my Unitiserve until I gave it a fixed IP address and restarted every device on my network. After that it never happened again, even over wifi which I used for a while.

If network analyser is not showing UPnP responses from the QNAP - then either network or stack in the QNAP is most likely the issue.

The UPnP media server sits on top of this.

It might be the QNAP has some sort of conflict, load or bug in its protocol stack. I suspect most likely the case if you have a good multimedia friendly wifi and wired switched access to your devices. Also best disable things like IGMP snooping if they appear in your router or switch.

Fixing the IP address circumvents the need for discovery - but is papering over cracks so might have unforeseen issues elsewhere.
