F1 - 2015 Season!

Posted by: Tony2011 on 21 January 2015

Here here we go again. Williams is the first to unveil their new car for the 2015 season.

Oh, dear! It looks like the trend this year among the designers and engineers are uglier and wider front spoilers.  I wonder what the other teams are going to come up with!

From BBC:

McLaren's Fernando Alonso has had a heavy crash during the final day of the pre-season test at Barcelona.

The Circuit De Catalunya said the two-time champion hit the wall on the exit of the 150mph Turn Three.

An ambulance took the 33-year-old from the scene of the accident to the circuit medical centre, from where he was airlifted to hospital for tests.

"McLaren said Alonso was "conscious and speaking". His adviser Luis Garcia Abad added that the driver was "OK"".

Also from BBC.

Did we have a GP this weekend? Is it just me or F1 only really starts properly once it hits the European circuits?

See Christian Horner has thrown his toys out the pram. I still enjoy F1 (watched this one after recording it on Sky HD) but it was a bit of a snooze this one.

Bottas back issue odd, Kyviat engine, Button last :-) (I'm not a fan of Button, but my Mrs is)

Anyways it will be all about the politics this year, and Alonso leaving Ferrari as they sort out their car is sublime....

Good to see Ferrari & Williams up the grid. Could be an interesting battle.

Felipe Massa and Felipe Nasr confusing mind!

Alonso leaves, Ferrari win. Alonso moves to McLaren, they're absolutely awful. The man's a Jonah!

..........  Jonah    .........   methinks maybe he has a problem being a team player, thinking his previous days at McL & getting on with the new kid & I'm not so sure he was hooked up to the Ferrari ideology.    Whatever, I guess he might have some second thoughts after yesterdays outstanding result.

You might be a bit premature with the McL/Honda,  the Honda bit is obviously where a lot of improvements are needed & yesterdays retirements (Alonso ERS & Button turbo)  underscore that.  But it is brand new & it seems missing a lot of development which is surprising (to me) for Honda,   but if they can get the power, fuel economy & reliability & quickly - which must be a directive from the very top from Honda - I can see them matching the front runners,  provided the chassis is good.  However so far this season I am not so convinced about the chassis,  it looks to be a a bit stiff & bouncy & that is not normally a good indicator,  however one thing McL are good at is chassis stuff.

As far as prophets go I think Bernie still knows what he's about. He's been itching to get rid of many of the more traditional venues over the years, the ones which developed the sport on, and still retain, tight budgets. Petro Dollars rule his world.

Bernie would run a GP with no spectators if he could make a >billion profit from each race

Its Bernie Dollars that rule

Quite entertaining watching the post race press conference today with Nico getting a bit of a huff on but Lewis and Seb smirking through most of it????

Rosberg better get a grip and grow up. Never seen Senna or Prost  with that sort of immature behaviour in public.

Posted on: 13 April 2015 by Lionel

Senna displayed his petulance and cynicism on the track.

What's the betting on a tap between the two Mercs this weekend?
Posted on: 14 April 2015 by Huge

Both Schumacher and Senna were much worse - if they though someone would get past them, they would sometimes quite intentionally crash into them or push them off the track / into a barrier / into a wall etc. to stop them finishing the race.  They temporarily  turned F1 into a full contact sport.

On the other hand, I do believe that at Spa last year, although Rosberg was deliberately trying to make a point, he didn't intend the collision to occur.  I believe the actual contact was a bad misjudgement in the heat of the moment; but yes, petulance was what put him in that situation in the first place..

Well it looks better. I wonder if it goes better?

Yes, it looks very nice indeed.

I am always amazed at the complexity of the front wings. It's like there's a rule that once they add a vane or fin, they can't remove it, only add more.

What audio solution do they use in F1 cockpit? :-)

It could hardly go worse than the 2014 version!

That'll make the car a winner, perhaps they can NOW concentrate on getting the car to work properly now it looks like an HRT.

Can It not? Also, I wonder who's been advising Alonso on his career moves. Neither he or his cars are going forward very fast. I also think that Kimi is a better driver than him, clearly shown now that mr "drama-queen-the world  spins around my ar5e" has left Ferrari.

And here is the inspiration on  how the F1 Cars are gong to look like in the next few years!

I have always been a big fan of F1 but I can't believe how boring and processional it has become . There seems to far too many rule changes year on year and the end result is tedious . I've just sat through 90 minutes of the Spanish Grand Prix and as soon as there was a hint of some excitement the team calls off the chase , awful .

If you want to watch the pinnacle of racing then please try Moto GP its fantastic . The bikes are actually faster than F1 cars down the straights and they even do overtaking in races that go beyond the first corner .

I know what you mean. Most F1 races are pretty dull. It's still an impressive demonstration of excellence in engineering.

Yes , without doubt but at the end of the day its a race . Ironically I was at last years Spanish GP in Barcelona  whilst on a stag weekend , it was a great spectacle but we left after 20 laps as the race was as good as finished and my friends had other priorities .
