F1 - 2015 Season!

Posted by: Tony2011 on 21 January 2015

Here here we go again. Williams is the first to unveil their new car for the 2015 season.

Oh, dear! It looks like the trend this year among the designers and engineers are uglier and wider front spoilers.  I wonder what the other teams are going to come up with!

What were they thinking?????

At least it looks like McLaren are making some improvements, although they will probably be swamped in Canada.

The cynic in me can't help thinking they are doing things like this deliberately to 'keep it interesting'...

They'll introduce an orange at half-time next.

That thought does go through my mind too.

Bit unsubtle if it was...

Do be brief. It was a cock up pure and simple. Why would Mercedes deliberately take points from it's self?

Posted on: 25 May 2015 by Tony2011

Not for  the first time the Germans are on  a winning situation and do mess it up. It's a historical thing. They'll bounce back!

Posted on: 25 May 2015 by Guy007

While it was a massive Mercedes cock up, Lewis needs to handle himself way better. A lot of people look up to him and they'll be doing re runs of him hitting the 3rd sign/body language for a while to come.  Sure Nico didn't deserve the win, but he was running in 2nd place for most the rest of the race and people seem to forgotten that. Roll on Montreal.

Thanks everybody.

With his new Merc contract at least Lewis can afford the most incredible toys to throw out of his pram.

It looks like Lewis  has always had the last laugh though.

I am waiting for Spa [Belgium], and when that comes I have a treat for all lovers of F1

Horrible circuit except for the Maggots and Becketts bit, in my opinion.

After the Monaco fiasco, a bit of redemption for his pit crew and tactician, perhaps?

Posted on: 05 July 2015 by BigH47

Tactician in this case seems to be Lewis himself.

Lack of self belief at Williams I think, hopefully they can learn from this possible missed chance.

The tyre change was Lewis's call,  the team tolt him its up to you, it can be raining on one side of the circuit & dry on the other & drivers know this better than the team.

Local weather knowledge in this area plays huge,  it can be a bit unpredictable - doppler radar doesn't see it, Mk-II eyeballs do it better.  You watch for clouds darkening rapidly, it seems like LH saw it.

This 'awesomely exciting' race was settled by an 'overtaking' move that was actually the pit stop.

Four cars running out of pace order for the first half of the race and nobody could actually get past (even with the DRS artifice) until the track was freed by them pitting.

The rain was entertaining but did not actually change anything at the front. If this was a 'thriller' then some of the other races must have been dreadful. I did not think the result was ever in doubt. I only watched because my Dad wanted to-and he only visits once a year!

Hi Bruce,  seems like F1 is not your thing,  oh well I guess I'm the same with horse & bike (cycle) racing.  The front four were holding position waiting for whatever opportunities arise - reasonably normal.  The fun was going on behind them.

But yes you're right some of the other races were indeed dreadful - so much that the F1 teams & FIA are in discussions to see how the sport can be livened up,  thinking more open regulations & other innovations to make for more attractive racing.

Mike

Well it used to be but I've increasingly found the hype disproportionate to the entertainment.

I don't think I'm alone in that, I believe audiences in Europe especially are falling.

I think that's also related to ticket prices.

FIA (Ecclestone) have pushed & pushed the limits,  including sucking up to & sucking out the dollars of countries & leaders that IMO have little or no interest in F1 where the average guy/gall on the street could no way afford a ticket.   Germany have said enough,  the FIA fee & the ticket price business model don't balance, so no German GP this year.

Silverstone was up to £500 on Sunday,  but even a month or so ago it was sold out & only general admission tickets available - & by sold out I mean all the the car parks & all the stands.

It seems that the big budgets and tech has overtaken the sports of F1 and also MotoGp. Fortunately, the latter continues to produce a reasonable public show IMV courtesy of a resurgent Rossi and now, it appears, Marquez.

As to F1, I think they have lost the plot even further with the new engines. This has just added to the imbalances across the teams.

I was meaning TV audiences actually.

Well it was quite an interesting race this weekend. Except the wrong person won.

Hamilton raced for almost a whole lap. He only won because he has the faster car and therefore managed to pass in the pit stop sequence. At least Nico passed on track.
