Thank you George, as past Oboe player I appreciate.
I also played the Oboe for a while till a change of school meant that I could no longer study it.
Of all the winds it is both the best and worst! A poor Oboe is the ill-wind that blows no good, as the twisted version of the old English saying, ...
But a great Oboe player can reach dep into an expressive World that is in my view only second to what a violin can achieve. And not everyone wants to be another violinist really!
Very best wishes from George
PS: [Edit] I have the glorious recording of this Marcello played by Evelyn Rothwell in 1957 [Pye Records]. Rothwell was the wife of Sir John Barbirolli and he is the conductor of the hugely respectful and passionate [and stylish] accompaniment. An early example of real stylish performance even on modern instruments.. Equally sad is that I doubt if this beautiful old performance is obtainable these days. I bought it on CD in the early 1990s.
Dear George, that's a pity we can't be closer to allows a listen of such a rare CD to you or with my modest (but electrostatic, you should know why   system.
