Kudos X2 advice

Posted by: Arnsider on 27 January 2015

Hope I can ask all you knowledgeable folk for some advice..recently bought pair of Kudos X2's after a couple of dealer demos against opposition from Neat, Rega and even X3's. Loved the X2's each time...... however I now have them in my listening room and I'm not blown away. The midband seemed recessed, vocals a bit lost and bass is clouding the sound. My previous speakers were Rega ELA's Circa 1992 but were smooth although bass light. Position of the X2's is closeish to the rear wall (about 4 - 6 inches out). My room is about 12 feet x 23 feet and the speakers fire down the long length of the room. The room has a solid wooden floor. Speakers are driven by a Qute2 via NAC A5 cables.

Now in the dilemma of returning them or ????  Now wonder if the NAC A5 is to blame?...surely not.

Any advice on how I go forward...or even alternatives??

Cheers all....

This goes back to Naim's pro origins, where the amp is placed in the rack so that its rear panel is at the front, for easy access to the sockets. Placed that way, the left speaker output is on the left of the amp. In a domestic setting, the output for the left speaker is always on the right, as you look at the amp from the front.

Naca 5 should have a direction indicator, it should (on both cables) be pointing toward the speaker. The raised ridge should denote the positive terminal. If your cables are running in opposing directions this may cause an audible effect, or a bigger psychological one!

Glad I asked now! OK, phase isn't an issue as my NAC is terminated in red and black banana plugs, and I've always been paranoid about making sure the arrow is in the right direction too. Now think might have speaker left and right a**e backwards...! Also my unit IS between the speakers...and must say sound did improve when switched them....or was that psychological!!!
