If the world was ending in five minutes and you could hear just one song, what would it be?

"Its the end of the world and we know it, but I feel fine". REM

The Beatles, 'The End'. Rather short and sweet, but the guitar jams are balls to the wall and leave nothing wanting. And it's a swan song.

"And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make"

Lyrically simplistic, it may be all about your karma. Something to contemplate facing your imminent demise.

We gotta get out of this place!

If it's the last thing we ever do.

If world's ending would wait until the song is over I'd recommend John Cage's "ORGAN2/ASLSP":

The performance of the organ version at St. Burchardi church in HalberstadtGermany, began in 2001 and is scheduled to have a duration of 640 years, ending in 2640.

Astor Piazzolla's ''Oblivion''  would be fitting.

It is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and it has been recorded by many different performers.

This is one of my favorite versions:

Possibly:

"Don't fear the Reaper" - Blue Oyster Cult"

but I don't know if I'd dare!

DR Hook...I got stoned and I missed it....not really!

There are more answers to that.....

1. Trying to prologue the 5 minutes by puahing the play button on all my 4700 albums :-)

2. Out of beauty - one of Chopin's Noctures or Vier Letzte Lieder Strauss (Jessye Norman)

3. A song with meaning The Spirit Caries On from Dream Theater album scenes of a memory

the real answer is of course that one would argue with himself what to run, and the world would be gone before even hearing one song.....

Panic. A great song by the best band ever.

Goodbye Cruel World- Pink Floyd

I would go for something really bad... to prepare me for the worst... something I'd hope the world to end before the record finishes.  So many to chose from but how about Billy Ray Cyrus - Achy Breaky Heart or another song I utterly detest - Whinge Whinge Whine by UB40.

"Happy Trails" - Quicksilver Messenger Service version.

Short, sweet and optimistic.

Might as well be this minor classic single from way back in '78:

I'm sure that this "best band ever" thing is just a phase you're going through.

The Sounds of Silence: John Cage and 4′33″.

At least it would be over before the end, and I might get the joke in such circumstances!

Since "Goodbye Cruel World" is really short, I would like to add "Death is not the end"-Dylan
