Naxos 2xHD mastering

Posted by: EJS on 30 January 2015

Has anyone listened to the new Naxos 2xHD issues? According to naxos, the master HD signal is converted to analogue using 'high end' equipment, EQ'ed, then reconverted into digital but at highest resolution PCM or DSD.

All this sounds very low end to me, and despite the extra bits the net result should be loss of musical signal rather than the promised increase.

Analogue EQ and filtration is very primitive compared to what can be achieved in the digital domain.

It sounds a wrong as hell to me.

If one has digitised a music recording then one might as well manipulate the EQ and so on in the digital domain. I appreciate that some analogue recordings such as the Beetles mono [completely analogue] re-issues have an esoteric appeal, but mostly the best restorations [invariably classical unfortunately for lovers of other genres of music] are always in the digital domain, in my experience.
