ND5XS not playing first note of songs
Posted by: joeribt on 02 February 2015
Since I updated to the latest software I have noticed a small but annoying problem. Whenever I pick a new song through either the app or the remote control, my ND5XS will start a song somewhere right after the beginning, but not at the beginning itself. Thus the first note or so are not played. When I restart the song it will play correctly.
Would you have any idea what the issue might be here?
I have the same but I notice it depends on the recording, some have a few secs silence after play starts so its not noticed. We need something in the software that loads the album only & then waits for something like a start button.
That said, it really doesn't bother me.
Yes I'm experiencing much the same on a Qute2 and also an annoying click.
I do find it irritating and tend to start the track again and it's fine.
Ditto, mainly when I play full albums and most noticeably when I'm playing Rush which are all 24 bit
I would contact Naim tech support and see what Phil has to say.
I've reported it.
I've reported it.
Thanks a lot, I was not aware we could directly report such issues. So I guess this may be an issue related to the software? In that case, a quick fix by Naim should be possible.
I am with the beta testing group so I have an alternative way to report soft/firmware issues. This thread got me thinking & I don't recall this problem with the old soft/firmware or it being reported as a problem by other Naim'ites in the past.
Maybe it can be fixed with app software, but I have a hunch its in the streamer firmware. Anyhow, lets wait & see.

It also happens when songs are selected directly on the streamer or via the remote, so indeed it seems to be a software problem in the streamer rather than the app.
It's never ever happened to me. I'd suggest it's a server rather than a streamer issue.

It happens with USB files. It didn't happen before to the same files.

I don't think it is HH, unless the firmware update has introduced it because it is a relatively new phenomenon thst occurs on albums I listen to all the time. I wondered it it was a buffer issue
It happens when you load an album, it seems to start to play the 1st track during the period when the streamer is loading the buffer & the app is showing "restoring history". If the 1st track is one that hits the 1st note on the 1st beat of the 1st bar, then the first one or two notes are missing. Restart the track & its starts correctly as the album is now fully loaded.
That's as maybe, but it doesn't happen here. Every single thing I play is fine. Maybe it's the power of the UnitiServe, or the posh ethernet cables not obstructing the flow of music.
OK with a server might make sense, a US streams data differently to a NAS.
.......... one for the notes book.
It's an issue but its not a big deal, doesn't happen on every album and its only the first second, easy enough to ignore or restart
I don't have issue either, but it might be related to the TCP parameters and TCP windowing and how the data payload data is passed up to the app.

I am curious to see if and when Naim will address the issue. Yes, it is a small issue, but for high-end audio like Naim one that should not be happening.
It's a known bug and the fix is on the way. It happens to me only when streaming higher than 16/44. All ripped CDs play good (so far).
I can't get this to happen. Streaming redbook or hi res up to 24-192, from Synology Media Server, MinimServer, or my uServe, to NDS or Qute2, I never 'miss' any of the music.
Funnily enough, I noticed this last night. I had a brief session listening to odd tracks from different albums. It happened each time but I just out it down to my ears.
