Yosemite and internet connection

Posted by: Southweststokie on 03 February 2015

Since upgrading from Maverick to Yosemite on my MacBook Pro when I leave the laptop with the lid closed for a while and come back to it I find the internet connection has dropped out and I can only recover it by restarting the laptop.

Has anyone else experienced this problem or have some settings in my preferences changed unknowingly during the upgrade and thereby causing this, It happens 4 or 5 times a day.

Does anyone have any advice,

Ken

Very nice of you to say that .

I would suggest:

1) Take your macbook to the genius bar. They may be able to fix it for you or they may not depending on the guy who helps you.

Or

2) Take a look at this (http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/25...blems-os-x-yosemite/) and fix it yourself.

Well, don't make ignorant comments. To tell someone they are doing things wrong just because it works for you is B.S. You don't know that, and you may just use yours in a way that doesn't manifest problems. All software has bugs, and not all users experience them. That is the nature of software. I know, because I write software and have to deal with bugs I cannot always reproduce myself.

Going to the Genius Bar used to be helpful. My last couple of trip s I have been told things that are wrong.

I've done the network fixes. Problems linger.

No one is claiming that.

Do not take it too hard, nobody here is saying that you are doing something wrong, we just said that something strange must have happened with your macbook and we are trying to help.

I beg to differ. That is what I was responding to. The statement was unhelpful and defamatory, not to mention incorrect.

Ok, my apologies for whatever I said unintentionally.

I wouldn't be too stressed. "You guys are doing something wrong" seems like just a throwaway line to me.

OSX networking seems just about as broken as Windows networking to me. Not much in it, really. Both mostly work, but not always. My new Dell Windows laptop is actually worse than our Macbooks in this regard, I think. I have taken to plugging it into the ethernet because of random disconnections.

computers are complex. maybe a software was installed which changes something.maybe not.

For instance on older laptops with SSD which is non apple on yosemite you have to disable the TRIM for the laptop to boot up.

The enable trim another system wide setting has to be disabled.

etc etc etc.

Who know what your set up is, but why blame apple for it.

in any case the answer might or might not be found here, but there are proper technical support on IT boards and websites.

What I have found is that some folks get upset so easily, some folks think that they know what they are doing, but they don't.

I am a SharePoint Admin by day, Mac fan by night.  Microsoft Support for Office 365 is pretty great for responsiveness; but often my Support tickets start with the cheerful tech telling me the advanced-beginner thing I am trying to do is a new experience for him/her.  Apple support at the Genius Bar has been remarkable, if imperfect, and without peer that I am aware of, in Seattle, on the PC side -- even with a Microsoft Company Store across the parking lot.

These computers and SAS services are miraculous, but they are all on a nearly-weekly development release cycle -- breaks are going to happen.  I admire the grace that Apple and Microsoft exhibit.  Criticism still improves the breed, but we need to be realistic.

Stay safe and friendly out there.

I have a 4 year old Macbook Pro and never had a problem. Since upgrading to Yosemite, the wifi drops out (particularly initially after waking from sleep).

I must be one of those people who've done something wrong.
