BBC Web Streams

Posted by: Mr Paws on 10 February 2015

Hi to all,

i seemed to to have lost my AAC feeds on Radio 2 & 5 Live. After a bit of a root around I found some MP3 feeds which don't sound as good as the AAC feeds so does anyone know what's going on here?

i know the BBC have been rolling out revamped AAC feeds lately but I've had my AAC feeds for ages only to lose them so I'm a bit confused.

Any my help greatfully received and thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention, that I set up a Raspberry Pi with Minimserver to transcode the BBC's HLS streams to plain AAC. Very impressed with how simple it was to setup. The only downside was that even in 320kbps AAC, the England Cricket Team was still bloody awful!

FYI Minimserver's developer has posted instructions for generic Internet radios as well as Naim streamers using the MinimStreamer tool: http://minimstreamer.com

Thanks for the tip - just setup my Synology NAS with Minimserver / MinimStreamer for the BBC HLS / AAC feeds. Works great and well worth the effort :-)

Hi all

quick update. We are moving onwards with this. The bbc and vTuner are both engaging and assisting nicely. Once Naim have something getting close we will pass into the beta team on the forum.

Greg - I got Minimserver extracting the AAC from the HLS container, but Minimserver then transcodes everything to LPCM with the *.L16 setting. I would prefer to let Naim render the AAC rather than ffmpeg  or avconv conversion libraries driven by Minimserver... have you found a way of doing this that works with Naim?

I haven't looked into it Simon, but you make a good point. Right now I'm just happy to get a better quality stream!
