Tony Joe White

I saw him recently on Later With Jools, enjoyed what I heard, and have been sampling his music. I like his swamp-rock sound more than the country. White's discography is extensive, so I'm seeking recommendations on which of his albums might appeal more to the John Fogerty/CCR, blues-rock type listener.
Phew! Where to begin? 'Prolific' springs to mind.
I really like 'Closer to the Truth' (1991) and 'The Path of a Decent Groove' (1993).
Good listenin' y'all,
John.
Sorry Joe I can't help you with your quest but I was interested to see that you get the Jools Holland show (Later) over there. Is it an American version of the show or is it the British show?
Steve
The Live in Amsterdam CD/DVD package is very good and a good representation of currentish live gigs, at least it was of his gig at "The Jazz Cafe" in Camden last year. Trivia points claim for spotting Bill Nighy and Steven Mackintosh(two of our finer actors) sharing a table both fans it seems.
Chris
I really like his last LP and had tickets to see him in a small club in Manchester last year but couldn't go due to work in the end .... I must get my priorities sorted

Thanks for the suggestions. Hoodoo and Closer To The Truth seem to be popular recommendations. I also see Homemade Ice Cream mentioned frequently. No luck finding any of TJW albums used in my last trip to the record shop.
@Stevee_S,
I assume it's the same show that airs in England. I came across it a few years ago on the Palladia channel; a cable station kind of like MTV for baby boomers. I've only seen a few of Jool's shows, and rarely watch from start to finish, but it's fast-paced and fun, with quality bands. Besides TJW, I've especially enjoyed seeing Seasick Steve and Gregory Porter perform on the show.
Tony Joe White - That On The Road Look (2010)is agreat live album, and Tony Joe White - Uncovered [2006] is also a very good studio album

Thanks Joe, I agree about the show, it's one I watch occasionally too. From the little I can find out here it is the same show that airs in the UK and is sold on to the American market. From this link you can tell people there want more of it.

Sorry to divert your thread good luck in your search for TJW's swamp rock music.
Steve
Steve,
No worries about diverting the thread. I've got some good recommendations here to go on. Just hope to come across some TJW vinyl in the s/h bins.
With regard to Jools, I first became aware of him in the credits of the Concert For George. He seems a rather accomplished musician, and I've seen him play piano with bands on his show. It's possible I may have unwittingly seen him perform live with Squeeze when they were the opening band for Bowie's Glass Spiders tour at Giant's Stadium, NJ, in 1987. Full circle, perhaps?
