USB drive formats and ND5 XS

Posted by: The Meerkat on 14 February 2015

I have a USB Flash Drive formatted to MS-DOS (FAT32) This is loaded with music and plays perfectly when plugged in to my ND5 XS. I also have a USB Portable Drive, formatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). This has video files, and music files, stored in separate folders on it. When this drive is plugged in to the ND5, it does not recognise it.

Is it a case of the ND5 doesn't like the format, Mac OS Extended (Journaled), or because there are video files stored on the drive. Or, both?

I have searched the ND5 Spec, but can't find anything about supported USB formats.

Thanks guys

my understanding is that the usb implementation on Naim equip requires Fat32

Brubacca is correct, even EXFAT won't work on Naim devices.

FAT32 can be written and read by most things, and although MS proprietary, it's an open licence.

Cheers guys...I can't re format the drive as I have valuable videos on the drive. The only reason I chose Mac OS Extended, is that FAT32 only allows a maximum of 4Gb per file, (as far as I am aware) and some of the videos are over that. In the future, I'll keep one USB portable drive for video, and one for music.

Thanks for confirming that.
