Paul Simon 24 Bit

Posted by: David O'Higgins on 16 February 2015

I notice this morning that Qobuz has the full Paul Simon catalogue in 24Bit. I will start to dig in tonight, but I hope they show up elsewhere as well, as the Qobuz download process has become a pain.

If anyone does dive in, will you post your impressions here please?

I will have a look, however don't get your point on Qobuz downloads being a pain. I am using them most, and I only once and now have an issue which is gone with a retry.

I'd be interested in how Graceland and Rhythm Of The Saints are in 24 bit.

No probs with my handful of Qobuz downloads so far either

Qobuz used to have a downloader which worked fine. they tell me now that the 'downloader no longer works for your country' (I am in Ireland). I have to download a zip file instead. This process is much less friendly.

As to Paul Simon,  Graceland was the only 'old' album available up to now and it's pretty good, but not what I had hoped. I can't wait to hear the rest of them, and I will eventually buy them all, but if only they would bring back the downloader......

Why is downloading with a zip so awkward?

The downloader would download multiple albums and place them in a Qobuz folder within the music folder on my PC. Now to get the same result, I have (I think) to download the zip files individually, and then to move the files around manually, copying, pasting and deleting. It's a pain. Also, from memory, it was easier to see how far the download had got.

Well, I've bought 'Paul Simon' and 'The Rythm of the Saints'  and I've heard a couple of tracks from each. They are excellent. Both are 96/24 and I paid €15.39 each. I'm going to try to resist buying any more until there is some kind of an offer, but I'll find it hard to wait!

You can download Qobuz files using the Qobuz desktop app.  Apparently it's a beta capability but it works for me.

And +1 on the sound of 24 bit Graceland.  A cracker imho...

I worked out than offer would be worth so little (current exchange rates etc.) and that life is so short, that I downloaded them all. They are brilliant! How have these been offered in Europe before USA??

Every album has bonus tracks, compared to the CD's, and they slay the CDs for SQ.

Until the rest of Dylan is released in 24 bit, this ranks with The Beatles in this neck of the woods.  No doubt some will have their moans as to whether they could have been even better, but for me it's wake up smell coffee/roses...after going to bed, but when will that be.......?

Graceland certainly sounds excellent. Not quite as impressed with Rhythm of the Saints; good but not brilliant?

All of them are better than any available alternative, and that's good enough for me!
