Naim app stutters when scrolling

Posted by: Graham Clarke on 16 February 2015

I was going to say that it freezes, but that's not really accurate.

I'm using iOS 7 on my iPad Mini.  I don't know when the Naim app most recently updated on this however I now notice that the interface seems sluggish compared to what I previously experienced.

When browsing my music by folder, I have two folders, one with approx 700 entries, the other with around 1500.  On both if I am scrolling up/down the list I find that if frequently pauses for 1-2 seconds before continuing to scroll.

Also, if I press the ... on the right to select an album or track it can sometimes take 1-2 seconds to show the next pop up dialog.  Neither of these things happened previously and they do cause frustration.

Am I alone in observing this or do others experience too?

Had the same problem. Resetting the app from the 'settings' menu resolves it.

ATB.

I've not noticed this, but there are a few things that can slow down iOS apps.  The first thing I'd try is to 'kill' all open apps.  Double-click the home button and 'swipe up to kill' all of the apps.  Then do a hard restart of the phone.

I'm thinking that the Mini should be happy with iOS 8.

OK, will take a look at that, thanks.

Are there apps that autostart after a power off/on then?  The problem persists between restarts of the device.

When you say hard reset, are you just referring to power off/on?  The iPad mini is pretty much dedicated to this task and is powered down daily.

Merely turning the device off/on does not do anything with the apps in memory.  What I suspect you are doing is not turning it off and on, but just putting it to sleep.  (Do you routinely turn it off with the on-screen on/off slider?) The button on the side of the device is the "sleep / wake" button, not an "on / off" button.

You need to 'kill' all apps and then preferably do a hard restart by pressing and holding both the sleep/wake button and the home button until the Apple logo appears.

Well I think your suspicion is wrong then

I press and hold the button (on the top, not side of a Mini actually) and then slide the power off slider to turn it off.  When it restarts I get the Apple logo on screen during boot up.

I'll try the kill and then the hard reset as you suggest - thanks for that.

Incidentally, I've worked in the technical side IT security for 20+ years (development and product management) so am pretty computer literate so I do know the difference between sleep and power off, however I appreciate you weren't to know that!

The apps don't kill from a power off and restart, so hopefully killing them all and then the hard restart will help.

I've noticed this behaviour on my iPad2, but not on my Android Nexus 10.

I stick to the Nexus, although there are bugs in that codebase that don't appear on the iPad, e.g. adding a single track, or using the search facility.

Infuriating

Bart, killing the background processes/apps and doing a hard reset seems to have improved the situation but not 100%.  The momentary pause still occurs but less frequently.  Thanks for the advice.

Don't know if this is the right post. I was again phased with a once in a while negative app experience. If you select an album it doesn't show the artwork anymore and it only plays one song and stops..... The only solution is switching off the 555ps and restart. This doesn't happen often, but often enough to be annoying......

I get that too, occasionally.  A week back I upgraded to the latest firmware on the NDS.  Hasn't occurred since but given how intermittent it is that's no guarantee that it is fixed.

Graham,  clearing the Upnp cache usually solves this issue..  I clear about once a month as habit.

Settings -> input settings -> UPnP  -> Clear UPnP cache

always works for me...

thanks
