DSD64 for NDX...NDAC too???
Posted by: mackb3 on 21 February 2015
NDAC has same bones as NDS and NDX?? Will it get the the DSD64 firmware upgrade?
OK, then just via the ND product range as announced. Bummer!
Some forum members are using the Hugo DAC which, whilst it is capable of decoding DoP, it looks like this is only possible via its USB input. Presumably the Hugo cannot take a DoP feed from an ND player's digital output.
The new Chord 2Qute and TT DACs, however, support DSD64 via DoP on all inputs so am I correct in thinking that the ND streamers will be able to output a DoP stream to these newer DACs via their digital output?

They should be able to... All they need to do is pass the output of the streamer portion direct to SPDIF completely unprocessed. They don't even need to be able to recognise DoP internally.
AFAIK the Hugo (like all Chord DACs supporting DoP) CAN accept DoP via all it's digital inputs.
From Chord site:
2Qute key features
The 2Qute offers support for up to 32-bit/384kHz audio via coax and USB, and 24-bit/192kHz over optical. DSD64 is supported on all inputs and DSD128 is supported via coax or USB (all via DoP). The new DAC also gains a handy switch to easily move between coax, optical and USB digital inputs.
Hugo TT key features
Hugo TT supports up to 32-bit/384kHz audio via coax and USB, and 24-bit/192kHz over optical, plus DSD64 on all inputs and DSD128 via coax or USB (all via DoP).
Hugo Inputs
Optical TOSLink 24-bit/192kHz-capable
RCA coaxial input 24-bit/384kHz-capable
Driverless USB input 16-bit/48kHz-capable (designed for tablets/phones)
HD USB input 32-bit/384KHz and DSD128-capable (for computer/laptop playback; see driver details below)
It's not exactly crystal clear but this suggests that DoP DSD is only available on the original Hugo via the HD USB input.

You're right its not crystal clear ... and I'm pretty sure you're interpreting it wrongly!
Hi, Eloise
Does that mean you know for a fact that the Hugo can convert DSD64 streams via its RCA coax and optical inputs?
If it can then it's good news for the Hugo owners on this forum.

I don't know for a fact (no personal experience) but have read several places that it does.
...but some DSD masterings are just as poor or worse than red-book - and the catalogue so limited.
Perhaps it will improve over time of course.

Hi Rob Watts confirmed over at Headfi - post 1928 on the Hugo thread - that DoP is supported on any input on the Hugo

Thanks Simon (and Eloise).

I understand that it does but I can't say as I'm especially excited by it as there is very little around, its damned expensive and I already have most of my favourite music at 16 and 24 bit flac which sound superb through my Hugo and SN2.
