Frustrated cricket listener
Posted by: Stephen Pritchard on 25 February 2015
I can listen to the cricket on two of my 'Qutes but not on the other gear. The DAB signal fluctuates. I have tried Internet radio but it only works when using the BBC radio player on my iPhone but i can't tune in on any of the Qutes or the NDS.
Any ideas how I can listen to the radio five extra coverage on the naim kit?
Thanks
And I thought the frustration was the England team...
(PS. sorry can't help with your issues)
England are beyond the pale.
But why would you want to listen to cricket?
Because it's the finest game which has ever been invented and probably always will be!

+1!
Your Qutes really should be able to get internet radio. How is your network configured, there must be a problem with it somewhere if you can't get iRadio?
Alternatively, if you have a couple of strategically placed Airport Expresses on your network, they can use Airplay to pick up iRadio from your phone and send it to your Qute.
I can get iRadio but not the Test Match Special broadcast - it thinks I am abroad!
Yet my BBC iRadio works fine - I am trying to get AirPlay to work with no success (no logo on iPhone 6).
Do you mean you're trying to play iRadio from your iPhone to your Qute? If so, what Airplay device are you using?
I thought I was trying to use Airport Express. But I am beginning to think I need Apple TV. Is this correct?

You can use Airport Express for AirPlay, connecting the audio out (it is compatible with both analog / electronic and digital / optical signals, selected automatically depending on which cable you use). I've renamed Digital 4 on my Qute to AirPlay for convenience. On the iPhone 6 you have to swipe up from the bottom to enable AirPlay, and it should offer the choice to play locally on the phone or remotely to your Express, provided both are on the same wifi network. Mine seemed to get completely lost once, and I re-booted the Express...no issues since. With the iPhone, if you have two wifi networks in your house - I have my intranet and a guest network - it connects in alphabetical order, no way to specify preferred order without a big song and dance and iTunes connection to a Mac - so you might double check that the phone and Express really are on the same network. Best wishes.

Alan - please excuse me being dense. Which output should I connect to the Airport Express?
Steve
Ah I understand.
My system has all the black boxes hidden away under the stairs, except for the airport expresses, which are placed strategically around the house. I need to give this some thought and probably get back to UHES who set the whole Naim system up for me.
Thanks for all the input folks.

Just talked to those helpful chaps at UHES. Interesting issue of iradio not doing what it should. Trying to sort out which Airport express to use as will effect wifi around one side of the ground floor of the house.
Thanks Alan and ChrisSU for your help and suggestions. I had to reconfigure my network over the weekend to make sure a single network was being used by all the control points (but it is still sluggish - I did not reboot the switch though).
I will keep you informed when Ian gets back to me ...
It might be worth doing a full power down/up of your whole network. That means turning off EVERY wifi device you have, routers, phones, streamers, printers, the lot. Then turn each one back on one at a time, starting with your router. Wait until each device is fully up and running before starting the next one.
Your LAN might also be slow because of the large number of devices on it, especially if you've got multiple Airport Expresses running off your main router. As an experiment, you could try turning all but one of them off, and see if your network runs faster.
Or but a huge pile of Ethernet cables and some long drill bits!
