Asset Nas

Does anybody know the http address to access the Asset Nas ? The manual is very unclear in this point...

The NAS is probably getting an IP address automatically from the router via DHCP, so it could be anything. Very likely to be 192.168.0.XXX though.

If you login to the router and look at "attached devices" or similar, it will list the IP address and corresponding MAC address of all the devices that are attached. Something like this

5192.168.0.8NAS00:16:01:C5:C2:5E

Next, look for the MAC address which should be labelled on the NAS and match it to the IP address in the table. In my example, 192.168.0.8

Hi,

thanks but neither is a MAC address referred to on the asset nas nor does my airport extreme disclose any IP address

If you have a mac, the Asset Nas should show up and you can access it by entering "adminstrator" in user. The password you should find on the back or bottom of the Asset Nas. It should be something like "asset=XXXXXX" where X are numbers.

That's the way I can access my Asset Nas on my Mac over Airport Extreme

Hi gmischol, I can access my assetnas via the finder in my Mac to allocate Data in it in the Männer you describe. But how can you access the functions of the assetnas via this such as easy tag etc?

Logging into the router (not the Airport) should give you an ARP list or "Connected clients" which should show up the ip address of the NAS.

Otherwise download an 'IP Scanner' which will list all kit on your network

If you only have a few bits of kit, then http://10base-t.com/macintosh-...scanner allows you to see the first 5 for free.

Alternatively, use Angry IP Scanner. http://www.angryip.org/w/Download

You'll need to tweak it slightly. Under Angry IP Preferences, select 'Fetchers' and select 'Web detect' from the Right to move it to the Left (Selected fetchers), Then change the netmask to /24 and when it's finished scanning, you should see all your devices that can be managed by a web browser.

According to the manual for RipNAS you have to access it on port 5800: http://assetnas:5800/ - assetnas should be replaced with the name, which you can see in Finder. Another option to try is RDC - again according to the ripnas manual the program should be provided on the installation cds, but if you goolge for RDC for MAC OS X, you can download the program from internet as well. If you can see it in Finder you should be able to see its IP in info, I think. Any firewall issues - port 5800 closed?

Thanks guys. Works now. What I am astonished about is the permanent noise from the hard disks.

The point of a "Network Attached Storage" device is that you put it out of the way, run an ethernet cable too it and it can sound like a jet plane then. Mine lives in the garage. I have no idea how loud the drives are, as they are no where near me.
