Nstream is really free!

Just downloaded it, damn it's really free
I got my app for $40 bucks just.a month or so ago!

Yes. It sucks (for us who paid full price!) bought both apps recently.
I'm in the same boat, and upset about it

But I'm happy at other folks. Free is the right price, enjoy!

More important is the little plus sign to the left of the word free which means this is the new 2.0 version for iPad! I wondered if Naim would release this version before tomorrow's live chat with the programmer.
I hope he did a fine job or he just opened himself up for an hour of high-end whining.
Free! Yay! I personally think it was ok to charge for it, but it does simplify when multiple apple account holders in a home all want the app, etc. Thanks!

The iPad version is there as well, I just choose to send it on my iPhone on the way to office.

I payed 30€ for it in March. Now the better new version is for free? At the point Naim decided to bring out the new version for free, they should have changed the price for the old one too. Not very userfriedly imo!

The change in policy on charging for apps reflects the feedback we have recieved, the price of the products goes up today in the UK and this now includes the app price.

Special thanks to Naim for this - we have been providing the app for free in the United States to users who registered their units online with us - now we need a better incentive (Naim mug, perhaps?)

A great marketing idea would be to send a Naim Digital mug to all those who paid for the app, as a thankyou for their support.

Let's not get too carried away - prices have gone up and the app is included in the profit margins

Paul, so the price adjustment is £30 only? Great.

I could be the last person to pay for nStream.
Just brought the app on Wednesday and less than 24 hrs later its FREE!! : (
The initial impression was pretty disappointed too!!

Chabyee,
Poor.
I'm ok with people getting it free as I had used it for a month at least.

So I pay £260 for my Sonos ZP90 and I get an app for free that is really nice to use or alternatively I pay £3,000 for an NDX and have to pay £30 for an app that frankly should come with it at no cost. Hmm nice.
Posted on: 01 April 2011 by connon price
Rich27,
If you buy a sonos ZP90 they owe you a free app as far as I'm concerned. Atonement?
As of today if you by the NDX you now get the n-Stream app at no cost as indicated in the title to this thread.
"for an app that frankly should come with it at no cost." I would like to note that there is no free lunch/app. If you prefer your pricing structured so that it appears free, fair enough. And here you go....

As Naim have discovered the apps are a vital part of their Uniti ecosystem. Now that they are costed into their profit margins across the range they need to keep up the development cycle.
By the way - not sure raising prices is that good an idea at the moment.

Atonement for what? It gives me streaming of all my music to the Naim DAC at reasonable if not great quality, internet radio and spotify streaming all for £260! It also works faultlessly, straight out of the box and is all controllable from the iPad with an excellent well thought out app. What's not to like?

I dig it. The new iPad version is slick looking, highly functional and most importantly easy as pie to use.
Nice job.
The only thing that might have been nice is two way volume feedback showing numerically.

We did this in the US back in December, to absorb the cost as we were providing the app FOC to registered users. There will be no price increase as a result–in fact, the retail price has now decreased by $5, and one gets the iPad app for free.

Worth a move to the US, if you ask me.
@Rich47
Atonement was a bit of a joke, of course. But $350 USD for that little box likely represents a higher percentage of markup over production costs than say the Qute or HDX. Only an educated guess on my part knowing only a little bit about manufacturing costs of items in China vs. UK and then there is the business volume to consider. I reckon that Sonos has sold well over ten times the number of units compared to Naim, and probably more like 1,000 times. So doing a little math and conservatively taking one dollar from the sale of each piece of hardware sold over the last 5 years and I am going to guess that they have a budget in the millions to develop their user interface.
Doing similar math for Naim, but using the $30 fee they have collected for their apps and guessing 10,000 units sold, they have a leaner 300k to develop their apps. I'm sure ther is lots more at work, regarding factors.
Sonos is certainly a decent piece of consumer electronics but I consider them more of a software company, vs Naim which is a HiFi company.

People forget that in terms of streaming Slim Devices and Sonos lead the way - these days they can afford to look down on them.
iPeng, MPod/Pad and Remote all do their jobs very nicely without costing a fortune. Of course there is the black hole that is Songbird ... how much?
I won't mention PlugPlayer - in case it wakes Patrick

I just bought it on 30/3, can I get a refund?
Posted on: 05 April 2011 by iburnell
Hi - sorry to jump in. I am thinking of buying an IPad2 - will this app control a Uniti ?
Posted on: 05 April 2011 by lhau
Nstream controls uniti
Posted on: 05 April 2011 by Woody99
I for one am totally pi$$ed off. I bought the n-Serve app first by mistake, and then the n-Stream app for a total of £47, and now they've made them free. Am I the only person who thinks Naim has acted disingenuously and should reimburse the customers who paid full price for their apps?
