How to Backup HDX Downloads folder

Posted by: Checkthisout68 on 11 March 2015

Hi, I have my Backup up and running with a Synology NAS. All worked fine except the HDX did not backup the downloads. Is this a bug or a feature? What do I have to do in order to include downloads or is this a manual backup task per default?

Cheers,

Chris

The downloads folder is not automatically backed up from the HDX.

I guess the train of thought is you downloaded it to a computer (or other device) so you already have the files backed up.

I simply copy the folder to my back-up devices using Finder (or Windows Explorer or whatever it's called these days)

I prefer to use dedicated backup software to backup the Downloads folder to my nas.

I use Carbon Copy Cloner (OS X).

Thanks, will do the same.

It seems I will always need a secondary computer for the NAS to synchronize the download folder with the HDX. I could not figure out to have my NAS accessing the HDX and pulling the download folder. I could only manage to copy / backup the download folder using Finder or Windows Explorer and pushing it onto the NAS.

I also cannot find an option in my HDX menu allowing me to copy files from the download folder onto an external device or even an USB drive. But maybe you know better?

Best,

Chris

Chris, an external device CAN access the HDX and its Downloads folder to 'pull' the data from it.  I use Carbon Copy Cloner running on my mac to do that; I copy the data over to my nas.  You nas probably does not have any apps that work this way; my Synology doesn't I'm pretty sure.

The HDX's operating system will backup the Store on the hard drive, but not the Downloads folder.  You must use something external.  This is a gap in the Naim server software.

Bart, thats what I am saying: As long as you do not have a tool on the Sinology NAS that can access the HDX download folder and pull the data, you always need a third computer (NAS+HDX+PC/Mac) in order make the copying work. That is inefficient.
