Naim App iOS - V4.4 release

Posted by: TJ on 12 March 2015

A new update for the Naim app which controls all Naim streaming products is now available to download for iOS devices. Version 4.4 for iOS features support for the new NAC-N 272 streaming preamplifier, a new link for users to easily register a product from the app and other minor bug fixes and improvements. Android version 1.3 of the Naim app will also be released soon.

New: support for NAC-272
New: Product registration feature
New: Help feature on settings screen
New: User option to show track options popup rather than immediately playing when track is tapped
Fixed: Incorrect daylight saving popup
Fixed: Multiroom volume control would sometimes control unlinked rooms
Fixed: Other minor issues

Yes, this is a good thing. My prefered way was the default action "adding as last track to current playlist" when a track is tapped. But this new solution is better than before as it does no longer destroy your current playlist accidentally.

No alarm clock feature then...

Thanks for the heads up.

Does the update mean iRadio does not randomly switch back on?

Thanks,

Like before, the playlists I have on n-Stream now doesnt work.  Says server is "offline' but server works fine.

Also, the one feature I would like the n-Stream to have is this and it relates to compilations.  For compilations, the artist is "Various Artists" but when streaming, all one sees on the App is the title of the song playing.  It doesnt show who the performer is but I can see on the n-serve that there are performer tags.  It is going to be a real chore to edit every song title to insert the name of the performer so I know who he/she/they are.  If the tags are already there, why cant the name of the performer be shown?  And before anyone says that that is what Rovi is there for, my experience of Rovi is that it doesnt show the right album 90% of the time and even when it does, the info contained is not complete and often doesnt show who the performers are.

Afraid not. I'm on 4.4 and still have the issue of iradio starting on its own

Another vote for TN's suggestion for showing artist names on various artist compilations.

Is it even possible to edit tracks on Unitiserve to add artist names?

Thanks - I'll disable the input again and use the Sonos Connect for digital radio as I keep forgetting to change input and that the blinkin' radio might come on....until it does!

@JSH, yes, and Android too

@Analog74, If your Naim product supports the Alarm clock feature then you will see it in the App settings menus. Some don't have the alarm feature yet (such as Mu-so) but we are working on it

@GraemeH, This will be fixed in the next firmware release that is currently in Beta, should not be too much longer before public release. I think a short term fix is to switch away from the iRadio input when your system is not in use.

@TN, It would be great if we could get all the rich metadata over UPnP but often it is not available. The Album/Artist/Track metadata should be shown on the main now playing screen. Our server products use Rovi data so app Rovi data should match the data looked up on your server. If you could mail our support staff a couple of examples of the albums that fail to look up for you I will see if we can do any fine tuning of the lookup algorithm to improve things for you. I will need the exact album name and artist name as you see on the now playing screen, in fact a screenshot of the now playing screen with the album in question playing would be ideal

@henryjulius, I’m not quite sure how the app could have had such a drastic affect on the playback on your streamer, drop the support guys a line and see if they can work it through with you. support@naimaudio.com

@daveas, You can edit album, artist, track metadata on Uniti-Serve. The App will display whatever metadata the UPnP server sends out so you would have to fine tune how you want things sever side rather than streamer or App

Assume you meant to say the new streamer firmware update should not be too much longer.

Posted on: 14 March 2015 by TJ

@sjbabbey, that is exactly what I meant! I've edited the post, thanks

Not sure why you would say that the metadata is "not available."  My experience with two ripping programs show that the tags for artist or performer is available.  I use the UServe and it tags the "performer."  In the UServe app, I can see all the performers listed.  In dbpoweramp, the album artist is separate from the artist.  So while the artist may be "Various Artists", the artist or performer tag contains the name of the actual artist of the song.  It is this tag that would be very useful to be shown.  As it is, Album/Artist/Track means "Various Artists" show up as the Artist but there is no indication of the actual artist or performer of the song.  The info is already there in UServe and dbpoweramp - just asking that it also be shown on the now playing screen.

A quick example of Rovi:

I just tried this album:  The Commitments (Original Artists Recordings of Featured Music)  (Classic  recordings by the original artists of the music featured in the motion picture "The Commitments")

It shows up as "DILLANTHOLOGY2" - Dilla's Remixes for Various Artists.  It is not even close.

Re Editing Metadata on Unitiserve. Thanks TJ but what TN and I would like is for each  artist name to be shown when playing various artist compilations. As far as I can see DTC will not allow the artist name to be changed for each track on a 'various artists' album. (Assuming that you want to spend the time doing it!)

Daveas, I don't know if it helps but my workaround for this is to edit the track name on compilation CDs to 'Artist - Trackname'. It doesn't take too long to do each CD editing via the nServe app.

Its not ideal but it works for me.

Im guessing this app update also serves the Mu-So?

Reason being, is that the app is now very laggy controlling my new unit, plus the standby function does not always shut down the unit and it keeps playing even though the app shows it "off".

Thanks for the suggestion Chris. I'll give it a go.

Great.  Thanks. Look forward to the Android upgrade, though I'm still a Bubble fan!

New: User option to show track options popup rather than immediately playing when track is tapped

How?

I do not know the exact wording: In the settings: Input / UPnP you find the option to activate this.
