Too hot cooling down
Posted by: Matt123 on 13 March 2015
Frustrating Matt but these things happen. I had problems with a Superline a couple of years ago. It went back to HQ who could find no fault but the SQ went off again. The SL went back and it was eventually sorted. Contact Naim again.
Good luck.

I don't know the unitiqute 2 itself. But give us some general information, so that we can try to help:
What brand and model of loudspeakers do you use with it?
What brand, model and length of speaker cable do you use?
In the manuals of the Naim amps was always a paragraph not to use "high capacity" speaker cable but Naim NACA5 (min. 3.5 m and of equal length) with Naim plugs (when ever possible).
There may be other variants that work, but unlucky combinations that don't work and can even cause damage. But of course your Naim dealer should be aware of that!
with them, no markings but would've been recommended with the speakers.
The UnitiQite is running the latest version of the software and was bought
in November. Sevenoaks said it would be fine with the speakers ?!
See if Sevenoaks will let you borrow some speaker cables; it may be as simple as bad or improper cables. It makes sense that the unit operates fine on the test bench and not in your home due to some other part of your system.
Is it reasonably ventilated ?
That would be my first question. The UQ runs hot enough to fry an egg on it - even mine running as a digital out only with everything else turned off runs hotter than the amp or dac. It does need good ventilation. Modern Naim's aren't as picky about speaker cable current so I would suspect a ventilation problem, or it's just a faulty unit when pushed, and maybe Naim aren't pushing it on the bench the same as you. What volume's are you generally running?

It won't be the speakers, the Indexs are easy to drive and it's unlikely to be the speaker cables but it would be a good idea to try a different pair before sending the unit off again. I have a pair of Linn Index in my second system with NACA4. In the past I've used them with a Nait, 62/140 and now a 72/180 with no overheating problems.
My qute 1 comes handy in the winter for warming up my study (no quality issues, though). The qute 2 gets less than hand-warm, thus surprising to hear about heat issues in the qute 2.

Hi Matt 123, just a thought, do you have the issue of overheating when there are no loudspeakers connected? This will determine whether the unit itself is the problem.
My UQ2 gets warm and no more. The NAP 100 it runs into runs less warm but no worries here.
The UQ2 gets warmer near the back than the front.
