Mu-so & Hard Drive

Posted by: myNaimisMark on 17 March 2015

Hi all

If I connect a powered hard drive containing FLAC files & artwork for each album, will the Mu-so find them and play them ok and display the artwork on the app? Or will I need a NAS drive with some software on it?

Sorry about my naivety, it's all new to me...!!!

Cheers...

The manual says this:

The behaviour of USB devices connected to mu-so, and
access to audio files they hold, varies depending on their
type.
Audio files stored on USB memory devices can be browsed
and selected for playback only by using the Naim app.
Once playback is underway however the mu-so touch panel
and handset can also be used to select play/pause, next or previous

Note: Most UMS (Universal Mass Storage) USB devices
are compatible with the mu-so USB input. Mobile devices
using the Android operating system are not compatible
with the mu-so USB input.

So I think the short answer is yes, probably.

I tried my WD My Passport portable hard drive and it didn't work.

If I remember correctly, you need to use UPNP to get album art across all Naim's streaming products, not just muso.

I just tried a FLAC album on a USB stick and no album art in naim app.  Same with Airplay. uPnP provides the album art.
