WARNING: major trouble with streaming firmware update 4.1

Posted by: gerdh on 21 March 2015

I updated my NAC 172 XS to firmware 4.1 to get spotify connect.

The consequences for my iOS Naim apps are catastrophic:

1. i cannot switch input anymore - the buttons light up on touch but do nothing

2. I cannot play upnp tracks or albums anymore

3. volumen control is not working anymore

4. Every three seconds the screen of iOs Naim app shows a rotating cirlce, then rebuilds wiping out any menu or dialog I had open at that point.

Of course I tried EVERYTHING:

- deleted and reinstalled the app on both my iPhone & iPad

- restarted my iPad

- reset all settings on the NAC

- rebooted NAC several times

Above symptoms showed both on my iPhone and on my iPad right after installing firmware 4.1.With the current behaviour my streamer is literally useless since I can only use it from its frontpanel.

Is there anybody out there haveing the same experience after installing 4.1 ?

Is there any clue how to resolve the problems ?

Is Naim aware of those problems at all ?

Is there a bugfix version of firmware 4.1 in the making ?

Have you reached out directly to Naim Tech Support?

Given that this has been released for quite a while now and the world has not caved in, your experience is not UNIVERSAL.  I'd start with Naim Support.

Sorry to hear of your troubles; they are certainly frustrating when they happen to any owner!

Amazing:

One day and a dozen restarts/reboots later the problems simply have dissappeared.

Must have been some strange network hiccup btw. the NAC and the router !?!

Yipppie I got my NAC back - now Spotify rock me...

The latest firmware update forced a factory reset which was probably at the root of your problems e.g. system automation would have to be set up again etc. although I see that you did try resetting your settings.

Glad to hear you've managed to sort it out.
