Time Display

Posted by: Wheretonow on 25 March 2015

I have recently joined the Naim fraternity - 4 weeks ago - with a Uniti 2.  For several weeks the time display showed correct time in sydney (aus) AEDT. Then it fell back one hour.  There has been no change to daylight saving etc.  The Uniti displays in settings (clock and alarm) 10 hrs ahead of GMT.  I have read many comments from people about daylight saving issues etc to no avail.  When I try to adjust (in change Time Zone) to +11 or in fact any other, the change does not hold.  the uniti always reverts to a flashing +- 10.  In advanced settings there are two time servers.  Selecting either has no effect.  I have tried switching off the equipment without effect.

I do not think there is a network problem.  I am wirelessly connected and have no issue with internet radio.  I have wirelessly connected to the one router, a Mac computer, Ipad, air printer and the Uniti 2. Is this at all significant.  Note, no problem in using the Naim app for selecting function, volume etc.

Can anyone make a suggestion before I return unit to shop (140 Kms away) as advised by retailer?

Phil

Youre usually so helpful here, but your answer to date - to do a factory reset - is a pretty unattractive one for many of us, and frankly isn't great customer relations, given that this is a new problem created entirely by Naim. It would be good to hear that something meaningful is being done about it which will enable us to solve this rather absurd problem with minimum hassle to the user.

Hi Paul,

I'm sorry that you do not like the prospect of factory resetting your unit - I do understand that this can be a pain if you have system automation set up or suchlike and of course in that case you can always decide not to do so, however, as has already been posted above...

... it has already been flagged that we are looking into it and I've posted up the short-term workaround. At this time there's not a lot else I can do I'm afraid until the next firmware release which will handle DST (in conjunction with the recently updated app) correctly.

A factory reset has resolved the problem for me , now displaying the correct time , thanks phil

I have done the factory reset, set the timezone and everything worked correctly. It took a while to even find and favorite the radio stations that are most important to me. Next time I started up the app a message appeared asking whether I wanted to use automatic DST adjustment, to which I replied yes. Now I am again with the wrong time zone. Argh.

Really do not want to go t hrough this again. Is there a way to backup and restore the favorite stations on the unitilite? Or a way to administer stations through vtuner, like on many other vtuner based internet radios?

Selecting "Yes" on the app with the current firmware resets the clock offset and takes you back to where you were - you need to select "No" on the app as you have already adjusted the clock for DST so you don't want the app to adjust it again for you.

Ffs second time three months I had to reset my UQ2 and now my radio presets are gone AGAIN.

Come on Naim. How can you mess up something simple as a clock... And what to do in 7 months? Reset again?

Also, did the time get aligned lower on the display since the update? It's looks to be in the bottom instead of the middle of the display or is that just my OCD acting up?

And something else, the iphone app is still riddled with bugs. The lower bar where you can start/stop and change volume often dissapears on me and that is really annoying. I have to force quit the app and start it again to get it to return. Also when I try to changed radio presets not all of my presets are listed. Using the newest apps and firmware...

My wife's 10 year old Vauxhall Vectra clock in her car updates automatically, must be linked to the radio.

Buying a premium product Naim users shouldn't need to reset their streamers to adjust the time, my UQ1 is on an older firmware but you still need to do the usual +1 etc to adjust the time which is a PITA.

Even a stopped clock gives you the right time twice a day, Naim land correct in 7 months

The work-around of having to reset to factory defaults is not an acceptable solution for obvious reasons.  It is amazing in this day and age that simple network time synchronisation is not working.  This should be the simple stuff!  Come on Naim this needs fixing - your customers pay a premium for your products and deserve better.

Hm, after setting itself perfectly and allowing me to take the mickey out of Mr Halibut my Qute 2 has, strangely, lost an hour today!  Bugger!

Factory resetting didn't do the job either. Spotify won't work either since the resetting.

Serve's you right!! Loyal supporter of Naim as I am, this really is a bit rubbish. My little Vita radio reset the time all by itself and woke up up at the right time on Sunday morning. It really can't be that hard to get this right.

Did the factory reset. Could adjust the timezone to gmt+2. Started the app and chose "no" on dst. Timezone still went back to gmt+1 and every attempt to change it gets ignored again.
Sorry Phil, your solution is not working at all.

Hi,

Sorry that it isn't working for you - it generally seems to be a valid workaround so not sure why it isn't for you?

...are you running the iOS app or the Android app?

Phil

Hi Phil,
i could reproduce the issue and it seems to be caused by the android app. On the first app launch and hiting "no" on the dst question everything is working fine BUT as soon as you close and reopen the app it resets the time to gmt+1 for me.

I'm not interested in a work around by the way. Resetting my 50+ playlist twice a year, are you kidding me?

When are we going to hear about a real solution?

Hi,

Your playlists will not be affected by this and as I have posted elsewhere we are working on the solution ...

Best

Sorry I missed the solution part, but I meant my radio presets. They were reset when I installed the firmware (somewhat understandable) but they got reset as well when I resetted to factory settings (why? They are not hardware settings, they are user preferences). You know how hard it is to find them all when you're not even sure from which country they broadcast and to which genre they belong? Yeah, I'm pissed about that.

"as I have posted elsewhere we are working on the solution ..." is totally unacceptable Phil. I look after the IT networks of a multi-million pound network as far reaching as Australia and if I dropped a clanger like this I would be out on my ass! What happened to R&D, beta testing etc!? I came to Naim on recommendations of colleagues who live and breath Naim.... I might have only spent "£1500" on this piece of equipment, but I can tell you it will be my last! Like everyone on here I have had to follow your instructions and do a factory reset, lose all my presets....guess what? The time has once again dropped an hour. The solution isn't difficult. If I can ensure my software is available to the masses across the world without a catastrophe like this, then I'm sure the mighty Naim can apply a little more urgency than "we are working on it".

 Its just the "time".

 Relax.

 It will be fixed.

Probably the most pointless and inane comment I have witnessed. The fact it's the time is not the point. Think about it!

Ok, but is it really a catastrophe?

just wait and your problem will be solved.

its not the end of the world.

They fix it. Takes a little "time".

Sell your stuff and your problem is solved.

There is nothing wrong with being annoyed with such things.

Today i saw saw my daughter hunched down in front of the superuniti in the main room and thought "great, a last she is listening to some music through this and not her iPhone." but in fact he was totally frustrated with her inability to correct the time in it.

We sometimes are too forgiving of a brand that some of us follow and support like a football team.

I had thought that  the software glitches were all in the app, very disappointed to see them affecting the physical units too. Still is the grass greener anywhere else?

From my perspective the time is irrelevant. It's the principal. You pay a pound and you want value for money, I pay £1500 I want value for money. I pay £30000 I want value for money. How hard is that to comprehend?
