Time Display

Posted by: Wheretonow on 25 March 2015

I have recently joined the Naim fraternity - 4 weeks ago - with a Uniti 2.  For several weeks the time display showed correct time in sydney (aus) AEDT. Then it fell back one hour.  There has been no change to daylight saving etc.  The Uniti displays in settings (clock and alarm) 10 hrs ahead of GMT.  I have read many comments from people about daylight saving issues etc to no avail.  When I try to adjust (in change Time Zone) to +11 or in fact any other, the change does not hold.  the uniti always reverts to a flashing +- 10.  In advanced settings there are two time servers.  Selecting either has no effect.  I have tried switching off the equipment without effect.

I do not think there is a network problem.  I am wirelessly connected and have no issue with internet radio.  I have wirelessly connected to the one router, a Mac computer, Ipad, air printer and the Uniti 2. Is this at all significant.  Note, no problem in using the Naim app for selecting function, volume etc.

Can anyone make a suggestion before I return unit to shop (140 Kms away) as advised by retailer?

I have a UQ2 (with latest firmware, 2.0.61.13436), the iOS app on my iPad and the Android app on my Samsung Galaxy. As reported here I ran into the problem of setting the time to BST and could not get the new setting to stick. I then took the advice to do a factory reset (offline), but the instruction to press/touch the logo to proceed is as far as I get. Nothing happens. I've tried all settings for the logo, but none makes a difference. Help! My retailer is as puzzled as I am.

I agree that it's rather unusual for any internet-enabled device not to update the time automatically, but I am willing to reset it manually if need be, for the moment. Neither of the two apps I have give me the option to set the time or to select for automatic change. Both are up to date. In addition I wonder why I cannot log into the UQ to change the settings via a web interface. I can get basic status information via my browser, using the URL of the UQ, but oddly this interface does not allow me to do anything with the UQ. Why is that?

The UQ2 is a brilliant piece of kit. The problems reported here are admittedly minor, but in light of the standards exemplified otherwise by Naim, they are quite annoying.

Trevor

Thank you. Very good news. But is any attention being paid to whatever is responsible for my non-functioning logo and to the possibility of a Web interface that allows for options to be set across the LAN? Does anyone know why my apps do not show the time-setting option?

hi willard

regarding your logo issue - i don't have a unitiqute with me, so im unable to test/check this - in normal mode does touching the logo on the qute make the volume mute/unmute?

reference web interface - no plans at this time

regarding your query on apps not showing time setting - can you elaborate please?

Note: the DST function is designed to take the time-zone information from your mobile device and use that on the product (UnitiQute). Other than saying that you wish to use the time-zone feature there isn't another setting in the mobile app. if you wish to use the feature then the adjustment setting on the product is removed from the menu options on product.

Thanks. In normal mode, with the logo set to mute (the "yes" option), touching it has no effect either way. This has not always been the case; the fault certainly began after I installed the latest firmware upgrade, but I cannot say the upgrade was the cause.

My Android app, under Settings, lists Loudness, Alarm clock, Styles, Input settings, Audio settings, Other settings, Product registration and About. None of these, including Other settings, lists anything to do with the time-zone. The iPad adds some options to these, but none are for the time-zone option.

hi willard

regarding the logo i'll ask another Naim team member to look at this on product for me as soon as possible.

the timezone query - you should have been asked on first power up with the new firmware, its a popup question not a menu item.

Ah. Thanks. I cannot remember if that popup occurred. So do I have to reinstall the firmware upgrade? If so I will wait for the new firmware to be released.

hi willard

a factory reset would clear up the settings and allow you to check, but you would also lose presets and wifi key (if used). the beta team of the forum are currently testing an updated firmware now, so if i were you I would wait

Hi all

Almost month and no permanent solution.

Posted on: 01 May 2015 by Willard McCarty

Indeed. But some technical problems are difficult to solve. This, for all I know, may be one of them.

From a broader perspective, picking up the theme of a user's expectations of Naim equipment, including the relatively low-end UnitiQute, I would strongly recommend a new look at the human-machine interface. These days most of us expect to be able to log into a networked device and change most if not all its settings from a Web interface. Why is this aspect of the otherwise brilliant Naim design  so low on the list of priorities? As a music lover I want as little technical fuss to stand between me and listening. Desire for immediacy extends to the occasional need to make adjustments.

Also it is apparent that less attention has been paid to the firmware updating process than one would expect, especially for Mac users. For the last upgrade I could not get it to work from my Mac so had to borrow a Windows machine to manage it.

Still nothing?! What is going on with service, is someone there-?knock knock!!!

Sorry, what has been done? If you are referring to the time-setting problem, where may I find the fix?

I have updated naim software at my android, then reseted factory settings in UQ, changed time zone. Everything works fine. Sorry for my english.

Just to clarify ... if you are on the 4.1 (or earlier) firmware then you will need to apply the 4.2 firmware (when it is released) to properly resolve the clock 'summer time' issue.

Hi all. Re Logo

I purchased the Uniti 2 in march 2015.  The only reference manual that I have found available on line is the English version Issue 6.  There does not appear to be an Issue date.

This version states that it is relevant to software version 3.13.xx and not earlier versions.  It certainly contains screen images that are not applicable to my Uniti 2.  I presume that the reference manual relevant to current software had never been released.  IS THIS THE CASE?

it is interesting to note that in this manual it is stated under the heading "Front Display Menu" that there is a parameter called "Logo off".  On my 2015 Uniti 2 this parameter does not appear.  I presume that it has been abandoned at some time since Issue 6 of the reference Manual.  My retailer confirmed that it was not on its showroom model but was totally unaware that it may have been a feature it times gone by.

This info prompts my questions:

1. Is there a current manual for the 2015 Uniti 2?

2. Was the Logo operation discontinued?

3. Are my queries relevant to the Uniti Qute?

Any comments greatly appreciated.   Rob

Hi,

'Logo Off' should appear under Tools -> Front Display on teh UnitiQute as the Qute uses a touch sensitive logo to control mute and volume.

It does not appear on the Uniti.

Best

Thanks for response Phil.  I assume by Uniti you are referring to Uniti 2.  However, can you add to my comments on the Reference Manual?

After updating naim android app at my UQ2 summer time works correctly.

Posted on: 18 July 2015 by TomSAMU

I still have the same problem with the clock... but after an update today, which didn't change anything, I found myself a solution which works for me: Settings>Front Display>Show Clock>off.

Greetings from Luxembourg.

Hi,

After doing the 4.3 update did you do a Tools -> Factory Settings -> Reset All Settings from the IR remote?

Cheers
