tale of 2 apps

Posted by: Arno Visser on 27 March 2015

It seems there are 2 Naim streams app. I have an iPad 1, iPhone 5 and an iPad air. The first shows a green n-stream app that works fine with my ND5-xs. The iPhone and the iPad air on the other hand show a black "naim"  app that asks me to install a Muso. They never connect with the nd5. For some reason I don't manage to get the green n-stream app to the iPhone or iPad Air. Is there a reason for that? Or is it one and the same app with different appearance and functionality depending on the the age of your Apple device?

Arno - the 'green' versions of the app are older (when it was called nstream). The black one is the new version - now just called naim I think.

I have the same issues connecting the new version to my Qute.

They are different apps but function in a similar way to control your ND5 streamer. The green nstream app works with older iOS Apple devices such as your iPad1 whereas the black naim app will only work with devices with more uptodate operating systems.

Your ND5 should appear as a "Room" on the black naim app.

The newer app (the black one) does appear to highlight that it wishes to connect to a Mu-So, however, I seem to remember that tapping below that part of the screen it will search for any other compatible Naim component. At least that's how I recall it happening with my SuperUniti.

Got it. Why did it take me some weeks to find out? Well, anyway - have to keep using the old iPad with green n-stream, because the newer on can't connect with the nd5xs for some reason, since it doesn't appear as a "room"  and keeps on asking for a muso. I did a lot of "tapping" but with no results. Weard.
