The second greatest single day classic.

Live on British Eurosport at the moment, three hours of sporting excellence. Only the strongest, fittest and bravest win this race.

With Cancellara and Tom Boonen sidelined through injury, this years race is wide open. Perhaps a rare win for a Brit, Geraint Thomas must be in with a chance, although Zdenek Stybar will a threat.

Getting exiting for the wrong reasons.

Shimano neutral service car knocks off one of the leaders at speed. Not badly hurt, but rider on the way to hospital with a broken collar bone.

FDJ rider stops at side of road with a mechanical. FDJ team car stops behind rider to carryout service, Shimano neutral service car smashes into back of FDJ car shunting it into the rider. Rider sat on the cobbles, not badly hurt but looking very unhappy.

The second greatest single day classic

What's the first one??? Paris-Roubaix, undoubtedly...

They enjoyed great weather - such a punishing ride in the sunshine let alone when it's not so kindly!  The Shimano cars added a bizarre and unwelcome contribution to the days spills.

Fabulous win for Kristoff. Terpstra's strategy is baffling in hindsight. Perhaps he thought he'd be strong enough to drop Kristoff on the Paterburg. Sagan just comes up short again, but he rode the best race he could. Hard to fault his tactics, he and GVA were just not good enough.

Yes. Definitely the greatest single day classic.

Thomas was 14th at 49 seconds, Wiggins finished at 9 minutes. A bit disappointing, but he doesn't seem very motivated to help his team mates at the moment, appears to going through the motions.

Lets hope it's raining next Sunday.

In fairness to Wiggins, he did get a bit of a smack when he came off earlier in the day which may have left him sore and unsure as to extent of injury, if any.  He didn't look too lacking during the tt the other day which he won by 10 secs.  Still, it'll be very interesting to see if he really can make it happen next weekend.

It wasn't a race he was tartgeting. Still looks good for next weekend, but I think he'll find it hard. Which is stating the obvious.
