Superuniti connectivity via ipad and iphone

Posted by: troika on 05 April 2015

Why do I have to be some sort of computer tech whizkid to listen to my music?

Please advise if possible.

I am running the latest BT broadband superhub with an ethernet connection to my Seagate NAS.

I also run ethernet connections to my Superuniti and main PC and my Sky box.

I haven't yet run the latest firmware update to my superuniti.

If I use Kinsky from my PC to play music on the Superuniti everything plays well most of the time albeit one track at a time.

I no longer seem able to pick up the Superuniti with my Ipad or Iphone at all even when adding the room manually.

Incidently my Skybox is showing no Internet connection either but I'm being told by BT that my Internet power is showing as very good. My internet speed test is showing very good too. Is there a better way of setting this up or what am I doing wrong?

Can anyone please advise me in idiot proof terms as I am about to start blaming the wife again and it may well lead to divorce this time.

Run a cable from the router to a switch. Connect the SU, the NAS and an airport express to the switch. Fix the IP address of the SU and NAS. Set the AE as a separate wireless network. Use the new network for the iPad and iPhone. That will work without problems.

Thanks for your reply. I can buy a BT 5 port Gigabit Internet switch to ad to my BT hub, do you think that would be good enough or should I look for a particular make? Also, how do you fix an IP address?

Get a Netgear GS105 for about £18. Use the power of Google to work out how to set the IP in your router. Once set at the router, go into the appropriate NAS menu to set it there. Finally, adjust the streamer in the front panel menu.

This stuff can be a bit scary (it is to me, anyway) but once mastered you get a nice feeling of satisfaction. Once set up right, 99% of the issues go away and the system will just work happily, day in day out.

I've just done my Internet shopping for the Netgear and the Airport express. I'll get it all set up by the end of the week & hopefully my frustration with it all will go out the window. Thanks

+1

I have my own SuperUniti connected using an Airport Extreme & a Netgear switch (AirportExpress will work as well really)  instead of the rubbish ISP supplied router and it works (touch wood) flawlessly

+2 What HH has suggested is a tried and tested solution, let us know how you get on with it.
