Amused To Death (Oh the irony !)
Posted by: sheffieldgraham on 07 April 2015
The re- issue of 200gm vinyl and SACD is no longer featured on the Analogue Productions web site.
On the Acoustic Sounds web site (records sales) it states : Availability : noshow : Sorry this Product is no longer available.
Was really looking forward to it's release. I've had it on pre-order for 2 years.
I don't understand why after a pre-view given at Princeton Uni. a year ago by producer James Guthrie, it hasn't seen the light of day. Very strange.
Dead it seems to be, Amused I'm not.
Hi Graham,
Looks like the Waters machine had a re-think and started again. New release date is scheduled for June, allegedly

Thanks Denis; I live in hope.
At least we know what Roger himself things of it:
"Waters has said the record, which also features Jeff Beck on guitar (tracks 1-2 and 10-14) and Randy Jackson on bass (tracks 2 and 9), 'has never received the attention it deserves.' In an interview with the BBC, the bassist/songwriter said he believes it surpasses everything in Pink Floyd’s catalog besides Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall."

Laugh?, I nearly died.

Good old Rog. Never been one to hide his light under a bushel, bless him. Still, ATD is far better than Endless River, Division Bell, PULSE, Delicate Sound of Thunder and the godawful Momentary Lapse of Reason.

More irony, did you notice the date of that article's release? April 1.
The vinyl has the potential to be an all analog production. I wonder if that is the plan?
The soundstage and imaging on CD are spectacular with a very good dynamic range.
I'm content to stick with the CD for now.
i can't imagine the reissue will rival the original as it is
one of the best vinyl (SQ) i've ever heard.
the Sarah McLachlan albums i just got from Analogue Productions
are just very good, sibilance, distortion and the vinyl is
a bit sketchy with some scratches and marks.
(also honestly i hope it doesn't, so my expensive copy won't be near worthless )

I agree of course!

I just got an email today from Roger-waters.com announcing that Amused to Death will be (re)released on 24 July 2015. Pre-orders are available on that site's online store.

If you have the original LP in decent condition then stick with it. Any reissue, analogue or otherwise, is unlikely to be as good.
Will be available as DSD download, as well. I hope the new firmware is available to all by then.
Hope at last.
It's back on the Analogue Productions and Acoustic Sounds web sites.

Pre-order on Amazon for £37.99
I have the 1992 vinyl, and as Steve says, it's unlikely the new version will be a huge improvement on what was already fantastically-recorded LP, but I think I will investigate the CD/Blu-ray package, which is a bit of a bargain at £17.
I'm intrigued by the idea of a new mix but I think the new cover is a definite downgrade on the original though.

Unfortunately I don't have the original vinyl that's why I'm looking forward to the re-issue.
As an aside some years ago my son gave me a couple of well used CD copies of Amuused To Death and Wish You Were Here. That was my first exposure to Roger's solo work. It was only some time later I asked where he obtained the Cd's ( He's a Coldplay fan?).
Oh! Roger Waters gave them to me while he was in the airport duty free shop (my son was manager at the time).
Hope at last.

Graham,
The pre-order on Amazon for £37.99 is not for the Analogue Productions issue but the Sony/Legacy version. The Analogue productions double is about £65 on other sites.
Excuse my ignorance but what's the difference between the two releases - quite a bit of price difference so will one be better than the other?
Hope at last.

You're correct Steve, but my order is for the Analogue Productions version at £41.09. I placed it before the other versions appeared on Amazon. I've checked my order details closely and will make sure I get the one I ordered.
At the time of order I didn't think there would be other versions, since from it's inception, info. was always through Analogue Productions.
It was only on later checking the Amazon web site that other versions appeared including the picture disc version!
Does anyone know what the version is on the roger waters website, Analogue Productions or Sony/Legacy?
James Guthrie's name is associated with Analogue Productions and this is posted on the roger-waters.com site for the LP purchase there:
The 2015 2 LP 200 gram vinyl edition of Amused to Death features remastered audio completed by longtime Roger Waters / Pink Floyd collaborator and co-producer, James Guthrie, and has been pressed at Quality Record Pressings.

Thanks for that joerand, seems a good price then if it is the Analogue Productions version!

I've looked for this quote and can't see it, only a link to the vevo video.
The description on of the Roger Waters merchandise site doesn't state which version it is.
Have I missed something?
I've sent an e-mail requesting clarification.
p.s. Apologies. After scrolling down the details I've found the quote.

It would be interesting to hear what they say when repling to your email Graham.
Hopefully it will confirm once and for all which version it is, can you let us know please?
Many thanks,
Andy.
For those interested, Diverse has the Analogue Prods LP at a lower price than the River...
