exporting from HDX to USB

Posted by: andrew jameson on 07 April 2015

Quick question - I have a dem in the morning and want to export half a dozen tracks from my HDX to a USB disc - is this possible (easily) - i've read the manual but it's not obvious at least to me how one might do this although i have to admit i was rather glazing over by the time i got to music stores

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Hi,

You'll need a computer. If you're using a PC, the HDX should show up on your network. If you're on a Mac, you'll need to connect to the HDX as a server, using Finder.

Once you can see the HDX on your computer, go to the Music folder, then the MQ subfolder. Your music files should now be visible, classified by artist. Select the albums / tracks, copy them and paste to the USB drive.

I'll add that if you've ripped your cd's to the wav format, the files will not have any metadata that will show up in whatever system you're going to demo.  If you have time, I'd convert the wav files to flac and then use a metadata editor to tag them.

But if the above is too much too fast . . . just copy them as Jan recommends and at the very least you can at least start playing the first track and scan forwards and backwards to play others . . . . even if the track names and album names don't show up.

Hi Bart,

I've copied many UnitiServe WAV rips to USB and the album names and track titles show up fine when played back (on a Bryston BDP-1USB, an Atoll MS100 streamer and others). Hopefully, they'll also show up for Andrew's tests.

Thanks Jan that's great - The dealer is using an NDX for the dem so hopefully all of the track data will be supported

That's great -- I did not expect that!

Works for me too, sometimes. I have a USB stick full of albums in WAV from my Unitiserve which I use in the car, as it has a USB socket. The full metadata isn't there, of course, but all I need while driving is to select an album and play it, so it works fine for that. iTunes, on the other hand, can't even see the albums and artists, even though the info is in there somewhere; it can only see one massive list of tracks.
