Unitiserve backup folder setup problem

Posted by: MikeK on 17 April 2015

I have already posted a topic about flac reproduction problem and this is the second problem that I have...

I have setup my unitiserve with fixed ip at my local network. At the same network I have also with fixed ip, a small hp server. The server has ubuntu operating system and two hdds. The 2nd hdd is 2tb and empty. I have created two folders, one for music storage and one for backup.

I have installed samba and shared the two folders within samba, to all users and full rights. The group is called NAIM and the unitiserve can find both folders when searching.

When I select the 1st folder as music storage, it works just fine and writes at it the different folders for HQ, etc.

When I select the 2nd folder as backup folder, it tries to connect and fails. The error I get is that the specific folder cannot be promoted to a backup folder.

Any solutions ???

Hi Mike,

The '2nd folder' has to be totally empty.  It first has to be enabled to be a share so that it shows up in the list of shares.  Then you need to 'disable' it as a share, so that it's not an 'active' share.  If it's an 'active' share it cannot be promoted to be a backup.  If it's in the share list, empty, but not active, it can be made into a backup destination.

Hi Bart,

I have tried all these ways but nothing happens.

The 1st folder is enabled and therefore can be selected for music storage.

The 2nd folder is disabled & completely empty, and can be seen to the screen for selecting it as backup, I select it and then tries to set it as backup folder and it fails...

What's the name of the folder you want to use as a backup destination?  There must be no spaces or special characters in the folder name.  A space if the folder name will cause problems.

Bart, you were right !

I did a lot of tests few minutes ago and the only directory name that could select for backup folder was a eight character folder name with no symbols and no capital letters "srvback".

I just started my first full backup.

So, my 1st problem is solved.

Now, lets see what happens with my 2nd problem in flac reproduction.

Another question : Does the backup procedure, copies also the "Downloads" directory ?

Sadly, no. I've used FreeFile Sync v successfully for backing up the Downloads folder though the process is a bit more manual. Cheers
