UnitiLite stream to a non Naim product?

Posted by: Seanh on 17 April 2015

First post so please be gentle folks. I am looking at the possibility of a Unitilite to replace my separates system. The only real fly in the ointment at the moment is that we have a second pair of speakers in the kitchen driven by the amp when you select "speaker b" :-)

This is a real deal breaker for my wife at the moment (along with the £2k but i am working on that). Will the Unitilite stream to a non Naim speaker or would I have to really smash the piggy back and go down the route of the MU SO?

Hi Seanh & welcome to Naim! I'm not sure what you mean by 'stream to', the UL cannot uPNP stream outwards, it 'pulls' from a NAS or other storage device, via commands from the remote/front/app. If you want the same music in one of two locations, why not feed a preamp output from the UL to a power amp (any one will do)  stationed near the 2nd set of speakers.

You could get a mu-so and to be honest if you get distributed music around your home you will be very pleased with anything from the Naim range, so keep feeding the piggy!

Hi, yes stream was the wrong terminology. I do just want to run the second set of speakers and a small power amp is probably the best option.

You can connect a power amp to the UL. Leave its internal amp switched on and you can drive the main speakers from the UL and the second set of speakers from your second power amp. It will play the same thing through both sets and you won't be able to control the volume of the second set independenty, so if you want it loud in the living room and quiet in the kitchen you are snookered. Maybe a Muso would be easier.....
