correcting US rips which went in as "unknown"

Posted by: Audioneophyte on 19 April 2015

I have been going through the Unknowns in my N stream app...

Stemming from US rips performed while device was not connected to the internet.

I have shazammed them and have a list of the corresponding proper albumns.

Files are stored on Synology NAS which the SSD US is pointing to for storage.

With out re-ripping...

How do I change the album and have is stick?  i.e. visible via nstream app on any device looking at the store?

I have tried changing the album from inside the nstream app but it does not seem to work...

Thanks for the help

Try the nServe app.

Use n-Serve on your iDevice, or n-Serve for OS X or the desktop client for Windows.

When I has a UnitiServe I would always correct any unknown albums, via nServe, immediately. If you don't do that you will get in a real muddle. Keep those albums neat and tidy!

Maybe I'm not understanding the problem, but . . .

I use MP3TAG to change any album metadata. If you know the right album and track name, you can just type them in and it'll show up correctly in N-Stream, etc. You can also use it to find the 'correct' data from services such as Musicbrainz. It's a little fiddly, but not really difficult.

The name MP3TAG is misleading as it'll handle FLAC and many other formats. You can Google it - works on a PC as long as the PC is on the same network as the NAS.

You certainly can't edit US rips that are stored internally, unless you use nServe or the DTC. I suspect that when the SSD version rips to a NAS it will be the same.

Since the rips were done without internet connection, you could let the userve recheck for meta data. It seems you have to use the dtc to do it, at least I cannot find a way to do it using n-serve.

On the dtc for Windows, select tools, settings & functions,

system functions, cd db lookup. Be sure not to change any default settings, since that could delete your own updates to meta data.
