Cat 7 STP cable installation problem

Posted by: Mhv on 20 April 2015

We got a cable installation  job, the work order was only for installation, and to put connectors

in the 2 sides off the cable and certify the cable runs for a CAT 7 STP cable , it is important to mention that the company who hired us give us the cable, the connectors, the list of cables and the control arquitecture blue prints.

We start the job with no problems, we follow the blueprints and we certify 100 mhz links and we finished the job. The problem start in one place that we had like 20 cables comming to the cabinet because the cable size and texture and weight we realize that al the cables weight were standing on the comunications switch, we told the company that the cable that they selected was for horizontal runs not to run from electronic to electronic , the solution was to place the cables to a patch pannel to reduce the cable weight and then with a patch cord reach the  electronics. They ignore that and

a while after the switch stop working, probably the mother board was broke.

They are trying to make us responsable for that issue arguing that they can run cables from electronic to electronic and this was Ok with the standard.

I read the TIA-EIA 568C and I found that a patch cord maximun lenght is 5 meters and that electronics are connected to horizontal cable terminated to jackpoints using patch cords when the lenght is longer than 5 meters.

The horizontal cable runs in the blue prints have more than 5 meters and we note that the cable is not design to be use as a patch cord because the conductors it has are solid not multifilar and is not a flexible cable is very hard to turn.

Please if you have experience in structued cabling with CAT 7 STP in similar situation your advice and opinions are very welcome

thanks

I do not consider it appropriate for someone to register on the site, ask for information and then leave. A forum is a community that works when members contribute and reciprocate.

I cannot see what relevance this has with the forum. You are basically asking us to help you solve a work related installation  issue. I cannot understand why anyone would be inclined to respond.

MHV:

You may get better help on a computer networking site.

+1 for a computer/IT/network engineering site

That said you will not get much help on CAT7 as its not normally used in commercial installs, large installs that need STP tends to be CAT6a.

you are correct maybe it was the right way to go
