Tracks that best show PRaT

Posted by: Simon-in-Suffolk on 26 April 2015

With the resurgent discussion of PRaT on the forum, I thought it would be fun to share those recordings that we feel really shows this capability on our Naim equipment and gets that foot tapping...

As many have streaming services and / or sizeable music collections we should be able to sample the recommendations.

To kick off (track/artist)

We love to boogie.      T.Rex

Lovin' Machine.           Wynonie Harris

At punk is a great source of PRaT.. One of the best for pure pace, timing and energy is

At the Edge:  Stiff Little Fingers

on a good system played loud you'll be itching to air guitar and feel breathless at the end..

A great therapy track.....

Sneaky: Alas my enjoyment of Heaven 17 seems to have dissipated over the years... However the Early Tapes by Level 42 still works. Lots of jazz funk from their pre pop era - and not too much of Mark King's vocals.........

I was in Houston at that time, we had a little underground scene as well.  Mostly NRG and Industrial music.

Sneaky, although I was relatively young and certainly not old enough to go to London to experience the 'scene' first hand, I do remember often going around to a good friend, whose dad had a superb hifi in his Saab. We lived relatively high up in the Chiltern Hills north of London so could pick up some of the larger London radio stations. On Friday and Saturday late at night we could often tune into London's Capital Radio from his dad's car parked in the drive, and we listened to a lot of this new Electro music.. and it sounded superb in that Saab.

A great cacophony of rhythm and timing from Will White and Alex Gifford. Truly entertaining.

Oh yeah, Car HiFi was huge back then.  Big bumping bass everywhere back then, but I don't see it so much now.
