Tracks that best show PRaT
Posted by: Simon-in-Suffolk on 26 April 2015
With the resurgent discussion of PRaT on the forum, I thought it would be fun to share those recordings that we feel really shows this capability on our Naim equipment and gets that foot tapping...
As many have streaming services and / or sizeable music collections we should be able to sample the recommendations.
To kick off (track/artist)
Sting - She ´s too good for me (from Symphonicities album)
I want my Lovin' - Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup
Vintage blues skiffle crossover.. Great stuff.
Feelin' Good - Little Junior's Blue Flames
good blues / rock n roll crossover
Of all their sins - Gotta love this one.
Out of Control. U2
..And this one.
I threw a brick through a window. U2.
..And this later one.
Miss Sarajevo,. U2
You've Got Me Beat - Swamp Children
Sneaky, although I was relatively young and certainly not old enough to go to London to experience the 'scene' first hand, I do remember often going around to a good friend, whose dad had a superb hifi in his Saab. We lived relatively high up in the Chiltern Hills north of London so could pick up some of the larger London radio stations. On Friday and Saturday late at night we could often tune into London's Capital Radio from his dad's car parked in the drive, and we listened to a lot of this new Electro music.. and it sounded superb in that Saab.

Spacer Woman - Charlie
Wild beasts -sweet spot
New York is Killing Me: Gil Scott-Heron..
Alastair @ Signals first introduced this to me on NDX/555PS NDAC/555PS into 552 / 500 into Kudos Titans ... Awesome timing... And bass slam.
One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer: George Thorogood & The Destroyers
I love the timing changes and great guitar work ....
I'm In Love With My Car: Queen - Night at the Opera
enjoy that PRaT
Another timing gem; Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris singing Red Staggerwing on the All the Roadrunning album. I love how Knopfler sings ahead of timing at the start of his verses giving a sense impetuousness.
its just a real shame the recording of the Emmylou's vocals are often over compressed on the album and often mask her delicate tones.

Following the recent news that Japanese Electronic artist SUSUMU YOKOTA has died at 54. I would like to recommend listening to any of his material, especially his work with Rothko and on Lo Recordings. His creation of down tempo mood pieces and more excited agitations are both visceral and beautiful.
The Chemical Bothers - Born in the Echoes
Less intense that some of the Chemical Brothers albums - but nice electro rhythms and counter rhythms as you'd expect.
Tobyjug - i listened to some Susumu Yokota - quite interesting - I think I might need to be in the right mood to best appreciate it
Susumu's album " Wonder Waltz " is a good place to start .
London Grammar - If You Wait.
Standout tracks are Hey Now, and Metal and Dust
Great superb blues, great timing and rhythm
I defy you not to air guitar on Sonic Soul Boogie on his Sonic Soul Surfer album..
NJ451 .. yes Hey Now certainly sounds great.. Perhaps not a classic PRaT track for me, but very atmospheric.
Those tracks that have PRaT which also have a slow beat are my favourites.
For the rest of your life. Hope Sandoval.. Through the devil softly.
.......Pretty when you cry... Lana Del Rey. Ultraviolence.
Do Anything You Wanna Do - Eddie and the Hotrods. Terrific rhythm section.
Bad Time Again - Eddie and the Hot Rods... Great air guitar
Neanderthal Man - Hotlegs©
Nirvana / The Man Who Sold the World ... From Unplugged in New York.
Fairport Convention / Wood and the Wire. Great harmonies and rhythm .. Good rock folk.
Little Johnny England / Widecombe Fair nice emotional rhythmic drive in a traditional English folk style sung in a contemporary way.
