Tracks that best show PRaT

Posted by: Simon-in-Suffolk on 26 April 2015

With the resurgent discussion of PRaT on the forum, I thought it would be fun to share those recordings that we feel really shows this capability on our Naim equipment and gets that foot tapping...

As many have streaming services and / or sizeable music collections we should be able to sample the recommendations.

To kick off (track/artist)

We love to boogie.      T.Rex

Lovin' Machine.           Wynonie Harris

"Nice emotional rhythmic drive in a traditional English folk style sung in a contemporary way"

Sounds like a Recipe for success.

TOBYJUG, this is the album, it's fantastic... The lyrics really resonate with me having grown up and brought up my own family in modern rural England.. And great music and PRaT... from the cover I guess you can see what sort of social commentary is being sung about

Aphex Twin / Windowlicker   and   produk29.       electro rhythms and timings to slightly catch you out... If you have flabby speakers or bassy room resonances don't bother trying to listen.

Faith (As Rain).      The Detroit Escalator Co.

Shades of John Cale under the influence of something sad and robotic.   This will sound good on an AM radio, but more temporal resolution = more magic.

  Dancer. Nils Petter Molvaer..

Burn-In & Demagnetisation .  Isotek   The Ultimate System Set-Up Disc.

 Wax and Wane.    Cocteau Twins.

From the Garlands Album.    A difficult album to sound right by any stretch for a system, but this track, especially so..

 Pandora.  Cocteau Twins.

From the album Treasure" , not so difficult to get great results from this one, but more system = more Magic.

Frou-Frou Foxes in Midsummer Fires. Cocteau Twins.

From the album. Heaven or Las Vegas.

Some good suggestions here, my little find this evening that had sit up and take notice PRaT was the John Peel Sessions 16th May 1978 of the Skids .. Great fun.

I much prefer the live version on the Time Machine (Live) album rather than the studio version - I find the latter a little dead - perhaps its me??
