If Naim take just a few months to sort out the clock problem...

Posted by: Goon525 on 08 May 2015

my SU will be telling the right time again.

Posted on: 08 May 2015 by Bart

But a broken clock is right twice a day.

Posted on: 08 May 2015 by Innocent Bystander

Only once a day if it's a 24 hour clock...

Or never if it keeps running, but indicating something other than the time.

We have a fix, pretty sure it's in beta testing right now, takes a while to go through the whole test process, sorry.

Posted on: 09 May 2015 by Goon525

OK, Chairman. Appreciate the answer. It is odd that my SU worked blamelessly in this regard for three years, and something you've done has broken it - and it's proving so hard to fix!

Posted on: 09 May 2015 by Laplume

What really baffles me is Naim's very, very poor response.

As far as I have seen, no apology.

No clear and simple explanation as to what had happened and how to fix it, even if only temporarily.

Nothing in the Forum's headings for the streaming section, that would inform Naim's buyers.

No deadline offered.

Now that it appears that the update is being beta-tested, let us hope that the fix will not break something else.

Uneder those circumstances, how can we, possibly, recommend Naim's equipment to friends?

You recommend Naim on the basis of its amazing sound, not an irrelevance like a clock.  Naim prioritises its resources on musical replay.

I paid a not insubstantial sum for a Tag Heuer watch with day and date functions. If a month doesn't have 31 days in it it 'goes wrong'. And have I heard a word from Switzerland? No. Absolute disgrace. I've a good mind to write to my MP about it. And it's rubbish at playing music. If they think I'm recommending their watches to anyone............. they're absolutely spot on. Beautiful timepiece.

Excuse my ignorance. What's the use of the time in the SU?

Regards.

This has been covered ad nauseam on the forum and the remedy has been given. Simple fix. My SU shows correct time. Why not use the forum search. Not fair to post so critically. Yes, the time setting has a slight problem but it has been explained and a formal firmware update is on the way.

That is not the point. There are people who wants it and it was a feature of the product.

It's so that you can still tell what time it is if you lose your iPhone, microwave, car, laptop, iPad, cooker, telephone,TV, wife, radio, alarm clock and watch all at the same time.

I don't think Erich is trying to be recalcitrant - I think he is asking for the sake of knowing if it has a function beyond simply showing the time.  (Erich please correct me if I am wrong.)

Scandalous!

I for one think this first world problem should be near to the top of the importance tree.

You are right! If the only use is the obvious, there is no need to be so critical with a minor function of the device.

In particular I have always experienced that minor functionalities always fail more than the main ones.

Cars for example, before the engine fails usually many small things are not working properly.

Is no excuse for Naim to be more proactive informing a bypass, or temporal solution and a due date for a "definitive" one.

Regards.

This way:

Naim supply devices that are able to replay music in such a way that you really get involved with it, patatin patatan .......

And incredibly,  they also have a clock that sometimes works sometimes not, which allows you to enjoy even more as you are not conscious of time.

Regards.

I need the clock on my UnitiLite to work properly so my teenagers aren't still downstairs at "9.30" really 10.30 on a schoolnight......

Posted on: 10 May 2015 by Laplume

My point is that these are sold on the basis of features they advertise.

One of them, not the main one I agree, is a clock.

Not so much for knowing what time it is.

But for being awaken to good music at a desired time.

Not very practical if the clock is off by one hour.

And, please, don't tell me that this is so complex to code.

There are many cheaper audio equipments that work perfectly well, including clock and sound.

The SqueezeBox Touch, for example.

As far as I know, Swiss watches (most watches in fact) are not sold as music devices.

All I am saying is that if Naim puts a clock in its audio equipment, it has to work.

And if it does not, they better fix it quick.

And be forthcoming about it.

I like Naim. That is not the question.

I made the mistake of reading this thread from the bottom up and thought it was a joke thread.  It was only when I got half way up that I realised it wasn't.  I hadn't realised there were so many huge problems in the world

Lap lume: see my post, I said sorry!

it takes a long time as any changes mean we have to test every function, permutation, no matter how simple the change,it takes some weeks.

That's funny, I read it from the top downwards and halfway through thought it was a joke too.

So what does it mean?

You could be forgiven to think some people are joking, if the subject weren't so serious!

I guess you are working with Naim, then.
In the forum, you appear as "Member" with no particular "quality".

So there was an official answer, but you had to know it was an official answer.
Sorry, then.

To those who think this thread is a joke, I cannot agree more that there are more important things in life.
