Outdoor Rattan Furniture

Posted by: trickydickie on 10 May 2015

We're looking for some outdoor rattan furniture for our decking and wonder if anybody has any recommendations.  We're after the plastic rattan, a sofa set and possibly a round table and chairs as well.

3 years ago we bought a set and it is already breaking down, it was reasonably inexpensive, but not dirt cheap.  We have left the furniture outside all year round which seems to be acceptable but I suspect that it wasn't as UV resistant as claimed.

We have seen some online from a company called Maze Rattan which has a 5 year warranty.  Also Royalcraft seems to be another common make.

Has anyone had similar furniture for a few years which is lasting well?

Thanks

Richard,

If you have a Costco store nearby they have some very good quality furniture of the type you're after at  reasonable prices.

Steve

Thanks for the suggestion, we're in Poole, Dorset and I see there is a branch in Southampton which we visit quite regularly to either board a cruise ship or go to the theatre.

I'm struggling to determine what good quality is.  We liked the look of the furniture in M&S but when we looked at it the rattan material looked the same as ours (it's quite distinctive), hence my query.

I've seen the quality of some of the furniture instore and it looks as good as any I've seen elsewhere. Most of the things they sell are of very good quality and whatever they sell is usually cheaper than you can get elsewhere.

The only problem is you need to be a member, or know someone who is. They could add you as a secondary cardholder for about £14.

If you buy from the store you would have to arrange your own delivery but if you order from them online then delivery is free.

Good luck.

Hi

I think that if you are the sort of person who likes to keep the garden furniture outside 365 days a year and expects it to look as new forever, then the only answer is to buy genuine teak.

I bought mine in 1995 and it still looks new and I gives it a power wash once a year which keeps it in pristine condition. The furniture is a horrible colour when it is in the shop but within a few months it matures into a silver grey which blends perfectly with any garden.

Also I bought a 1950 something bench seat off a retired colleague and even now it still looks good.

You cannot beat teak for garden furniture.

Regards

Mick - Thanks for your advice.  I am sure you are right but we wan't something a bit lighter and smaller and the best teak furniture seems to be quite chunky.

Steve - Thanks for your advice too, it made us realise that we need to pay more!

We've looked around and pulled the trigger and ordered some furniture made by a company called 4 Seasons.  It has a 10 year warranty and can be left outside all year round.  The same range is available for commercial use which bodes well.

It's pretty pricey but everywhere we have looked the advice has been that this is some of the best available.  We were hoping to pay a little less than this, looking for an equivalent of Rega, rather than Naim but you seem to get what you pay for and warranties on less expensive items seem to be 2-3 years.  It also looks really nice.

I'll report back in 10 years!
