Synology - New DSM 5.2 Software

Posted by: Mike-B on 12 May 2015

DSM 5.2 released this morning - looks like significant changes in many areas

https://www.synology.com/en-uk/releaseNote/DS214

The main focus seems to be Log-On & Cloud stuff

The only audio change seems to be

"Added support of transcoding FLAC/APE, ALAC/AAC, OGG, AIFF formats for DLNA players"

...........   not sure what that does as I don't transcode (I'm all .wav),  I would hope it fixes the problem of only transcoding at 16 bit

I'll give it a whirl in a minute. The old transcoder did do 24 bit (eventually) but didn't do gapless.

Just caught up in Hewitt's Bach Toccatas and a tricky bit of Civ 5

Installed it and did all the package updates, but it still glitches on gapless transcoding.

Shame,  its 100% OK with .wav  & not needing transcoding.

What about playing .flac  straight (no transcoding)

Have you e-mailed Synology or asked the forum for advice ??

FLAC does gapless seamlessly. I've not bothered with asking Synology as I'm ripping (and its going to take me YEARS!) to WAV now and any FLACs that need seamless I use Minim.

its a shame as I generally prefer Synolgy's Media Server.

Edit: and I'm going to have to go for an expansion box. When I started the streaming route I never ever imagined a situation where I'd be preparing myself for a move away from the CD555. I blame that Watts bloke.

Yup. Tapping my toes to B52s Cosmic Thing via Minim right now.
