Streaming Firmware Update?

Posted by: Dustysox on 12 May 2015

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone knew when this would be released?

I should know better, evidently I don't. I am a Naim customer...I live in hope!!!!

The latest beta still has some issues & we're waiting for the next rev to test fixes for that.  So its probably one more turn around the beta round-a-bout before the next release.

So not expecting a release any time soon then.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for the "heads up".

Really looking forward to this one.

And if Naim are listening (no pun intended!!) keep up,the good work. In Naim we trust!

Any truth to a rumor I heard about Tidal coming to Naim streamers real soon?

Posted on: 14 May 2015 by jmtennapel

I hope the new firmware will make it feasible to play ALAC high res files that cross a certain bandwidth instead of stalling the streamer as it does now.

So The Munich High End is over but where is the firmware update that will permit lossless streaming on our beloved Naim streamers ? Any rumours?

It would also be very nice to have Tidal available too...

A question for the beta testers: with the new firmware it will be possible to listen to the "new audio format" in use by bbc podcasts? Even if the streamer is  out of UK ?

The new BBC iRadio format, HLS, is up and running for its radio stations, and for 'on demand'. Podcasts are still in MP3, and the last I heard from the BBC was that there were no plans to change that. I don't know how much of this is available outside the UK (without fooling them re. your location ;-)

Maybe I miss something but since the begginning of march when I try to listen to a bbc podcast with my uniti, I get a message that BBC has changed the audio format and my device is not compatible

I just noticed that the latest version of Linn's software for their DS and DSM products now supports Qobuz and has HLS support for higher resolution BBC radio

Come on Naim, please add Qobuz - you know it makes sense

The latest firmware version is in beta testing (fingers crossed, hopefully the final round) so any new functionality will already have been finalised. Let's just hope we don't have to wait too long for its release to be announced and made available.

Then the next round of enhancement requests/demands can begin all over again.

Where can I read about the beta firmware?

Posted on: 20 May 2015 by sjbabbey

The precise details of the beta version will only be known to Naim and the beta testers (I am not one of them btw). However, we do know that the new version will address various bugs e.g. the daylight savings time issue and will enable the N series streamers to stream DSD64 files possibly with enhanced DSP.

So you people also know if other streaming services will be supported?

Note to Beta Testers!

Please remember that you are not to discuss the beta software on the public forums...

I am a Beta tester but I'm unable to reveal details on here, having been given a substantial advance by The Sun to disclose the whole sordid affair.

I've warned you before about posting jokes outside of padded cell, Tony. Have you forgotten to take your beta-blockers again?

Posted on: 20 May 2015 by tonym

Damn! Beta go & take them now!

+1 on the need to add Qobuz.

Qobuz is not available in the US, but I have been using Tidal fairly religiously at work and it would be outstanding to have it available in high res at home on the streamer....

I hope Tidal becomes available else I may have to purchase the Linn Majik.

Here's my dilemma. Right now I listen to Tidal about 80% of the time.  My source is an iPad using AirPlay to an Airport Express into an Oppo 105 then into a XS2!  Yikes too many hops for sure.  I really like streaming and I'm getting tired of waiting for the ND5XS to add Tidal support so I just may jump to a Linn.

Bottom line is I'm trying desperately to upgrade my source before considering a FlatCap or HiCap DR. My thought is the ND5XS is the way to go but I'm having second thoughts with the Linn Majik or even the Linn Sneaky DS and the new Rega DAC-R.
