Streaming Firmware Update?

Posted by: Dustysox on 12 May 2015

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone knew when this would be released?

I should know better, evidently I don't. I am a Naim customer...I live in hope!!!!

Those were the days when you actually could send software updates by voicemail (aka 'answer machine').  Software updates in those days being like... "change line number 20 from add to divide".  Programming was so much simpler then...

...just saying.

Come on Naim, please add Qobuz - you know it makes sense

Interesting, I didn't realize Linn now support Qobuz.. It must sound superb... Of course it would sound even better on Naim

Well lets hope its worth it, considering all the secrecy!

However, i have a feeling that apart from a few bug fixes, it may not be a huge development for Muso owners.

Unfortunately we are not in a position to make a comparison , I have a streamer from both Naim and Linn... I can only access My qobuz and Tidal accounts on one of them.. sounds superb though

Linn keep on inviting me events to listen to Exakt Klimax Space or something like that.  I've been told its very good but it sounds a bit weird

Don't be tempted by the dark side of the force

Now that would be worthy of a bit of a fanfare release.

...but speculation can be a very dangerous thing.

Hopefully there will be more clarity on Qobuz soon. There was an update last month:

- The bankruptcy protection will run out on June 15th.

- Previously they were looking for backers, but they are now open to a takeover; which probably means anyone but Deezer!

- 20% of the workforce has been laid off.

Other than that . . . how are their financials?

Qobuz is something I had never heard of and isn't available in North America. Here it would be awesome to have Tidal. There is probably going to be some of these companies that don't make it, but I don't think that makes it less important to provide the ability to stream these as these subscription services are based on how the world is now purchasing music a big part of the way of the future.

Lol, thats quite funny Wat, I've often wondered why they tell me so and so's new album is out whenI've  neither bought or looked at it.

Are we any closer?

Just an FYI, a discovery I recently made is that if you load BubbleUpnp, select your Nac-N272 and create an OpenHome renderer you can then use the Kazoo to play Tidal through your streamer. The BubbleUpnp does not need to run on your Mac, although that was initially how I got it to work. They have a synology module that allows it to run on the NAS. It sounds great and the Kazoo interface on my Mac allows me to play any of my music through the NAC-N272 as well as Linn streamers. You do not need to have a Linn streamer for this to work.

Yet again another gloom and doom deadline has past and Qobuz continues to grow and grow and still heavily recruiting given the new job adverts they are showing..... thank goodness. Its probably no coincidence that it has been trading actually longer than Spotify.

Now we just need Qobuz connect on our beloved streamers, the waiting for streaming services is too long....., a Scottisch company is more on the ball in this topic and some others like room correction.....

Are we about to see the streaming thread burst into flame again?  Personally I'd prefer Tidal.

I would prefer Tidal, I currently have it kludged in using Kazoo + BubbleUpNP and it is wonderful, but native support from NAIM would be outstanding. High-Res streaming is here to stay, I would hope and assume NAIM is working hard on getting this ready to go. It can't be that difficult since I can stream Tidal FLAC to my NAIM streamer using their competitors app and it works just fine.

Actually I've just realised that I no longer have a Naim streamer so I really don;t care which option is supplied as long as it makes people on here happy!

The long waiting is getting embarassing for a brand that once was at the vanguard of streaming...

Indeed it will soon be 6 months during which the only worthwhile support and solution available to the BBC Radio issue has been via Simon Nash's Minimserver and, in my case, a Raspberry Pi. They've provided me with faultless solid streams all day every day.

I'd like to think that my thanks and donation to him have been more than matched by Naim.

Can I just say, praise be where it is deserved  Well done Naim for the update.

We (or should that be I!) are quick to jump in feet first when we are unhappy, well the same should be the same when the pendulum swings the other way. If other people search the web they may well misread our intent.

Thank you Naim for the update. Mine took all of 10/15 minutes whilst i was attending the BBQ!!!

Job well done all @ Naim.

+1 its been frustrating seeimg really good hard work completed by Naim during beta testing and not being able to refer to it during these discussions but I'm glad this update is now in the wild because I feel they have worked hard to provide some additional value
