Is a large touch-panel on a music server useful?  Not sure when that would ever get used.

Even if you could reach it from the sofa, an iPad in your hand has to be easier than that.

When one gets annoyed by the screen and wants to switch it off, I guess. Then it is fine if you can switch it off with a simple touch. By the way, I very much dislike touch screens, no matter whether from iPads, iPhones or from other devices. Best, nbpf

I don't much like touch screens either.  For quite a while I struggled to find the best way of operating my music PC via I-thing.  I had been using a wireless keyboard with touchpad in conjunction with large TV screen, and very cool that was, but I thought it would be much better not to have the TV glaring at me, and operate it with an i-thing.  Once I found an acceptable solution that allowed me to do that, I quickly realised, actually, it's not.  When listening generally, I still use the wireless keyboard to control, but use the i-things when listening outside on the patio in the sun, on the rare occasions in the UK where that is possible.  Either way, a touch screen attached to the equipment itself would be of no use at all for me.

I vastly prefer a touchscreen to one of those remotes that has a zillion tiny buttons on it.  But I want to touch it from my couch, not from the front panel of my hi fi hardware.

What I find annoying with the touch screen world is the number of stages achieve something.  Using the Qobuz i-phone app is not a bad experience relative to any other, and if you want to select an album from a playlist, and just play it, then fine.  However, if you're exploring new territory, that's when I find it hopeless.  The desktop app on a large screen is much easier, point at search box, and type using keyboard, browse albums, find what your're after.  Simples!  Also, it's much more sociable in a way, as everyone in the room can see what's happening, rather than someone saying.....How do I get to search.  Use menu on the left.  What menu?  Where the four lines are that apparently represents menu.  Where? ----- Get up, point to left corner of screen on tiny i-thing......It's terrible.

I love touchpads like "The Beast Audioserver" or the new Orpheus Mediaserver...both can be managed with i-devices as well

I enjoy interacting with my Squeezebox Touches via the touch screen, in addition to iThing, laptop etc.

It's nice to have the various options. I find selecting tunes while near the hi-fi is satisfying, if a bit nostalgic.

Seeing the screen, in passing atop the hi-fi, displaying album art and song status is also nice.

The Orpheus looks lovely but a touch screen at the bottom of the rack I would find less appealing.

Auralic also announced, at the show, the Aries mini streamer retailing for 400$.
