Ok.

superu. iPad. App. Etc. not stupid but missing something,? (Hopefully stupid)

why, oh bleedin why... 1 year on after giving every single benefit of every other and inclusive doubt does this firkin app not stay connected to my (admittedly awesome Superu when connected) Superu?

I have discovered that the quickest way to connect is to reset the app and manually add a new room I.e 192.168. Blah blah.

I really cant cant be aRexD to do this every time my wife looks at a shopping site.

please help if you can relate!!

SuperU, iPad, App, cheap NAS etc.

Two other Qutes, no problems at all!

Now my Guardian App crashes every 2 minutes. Assuming you have a decent setup and connection, have you ever deleted the app, soft restart the pad, load the app, hard restart the pad? If not try it!

have you assigned a perm ip address to the su on your router?

Not sure whether @peez is proposing you should or shouldn't allocate a permanent IP address . . . but you probably don't need to. IME it creates more problems that it solves.

I would try @halfler3o's advice - delete the app, power off and on the iPad, and reload the app. On the Settings, tick the Stay Connected option.

If it's still problematic, see if you can use it correctly with another IOS device.

And if it's still problematic then it may be a network or router issue. Depending on your degree of comfort with such things, there are some IOS network apps that Phil has recommended elsewhere on the forum that can tell you what's running. That includes Bonjour, the protocol the device uses to discover the service over IP. I would seek out his post on that topic.

I agree with SolidAir, unless there is a fault in your iPad, almost certainly a home network issue. Most likely caused by ineffective network equipment or possibly a badly behaving device such wifi access point or home internet router.

It sounds like multicast addressing and switching is failing after a while on your home network.

One solution could be get a dedicated wireless access point for your music iPad such as Apple Airport Express, and connect it, your Naim, NAS, and internet router directly to a seperate basic / Unconfigurable switch like a Netgear. Use Ethernet cables to connect everything to your switch.

if you know how to use Ping, you should be able to ping the multicast discovery address and you should see your iPad, Naim and NAS return to the ping at the same time.

iIf this makes sense I will dig out the UPnP discovery address later (this is the same address for everybody)

The discovery address is :239.255.255.250

Therefore if you ping that you should see all UPnP devices respond back ( there may be more than just your audio devices). If your Naim, iPad or media server/NAS is not responding, is intermittent or taking a long time, then it points to a fault with that device or a network connectivity issue as described above.

Note you will not see the IP address that you send the ping from even it's a UPnP discovery enabled device if you are using a basic unmanaged switch. That is correct behaviour.

Thanks all.

I have tried a lot of these suggestions in the past i.e reset app-stay connected etc to no avail.

Simon, I think your suggestion is the next way forward i.e dedicated WAP/switch. I currently have a Netgear ReadyNAS102 storage device which along with PCs/smart TVs and my superu are connected to a Netgear GS108E 8 port UPnP swicth. The switch gets is feed from the WAN2(giga) port on my Draytek Vigor2830n router which has fibre broadband.

My home network is hard wired using TE cat5e which I have installed correctly (I have been doing this as a profession for many years so I KNOW this part is right!)

Moving house this weekend so will set up the new trial in a few weeks.

Thanks again and please post more if you think of anything else.

Cheers
